This board gets a lot of traffic, and it's filled with long-time posters. Considering how important this site is to MIAA fandom, and to the D3 athletics experience in general, please give some thought to helping out Pat and the D3sports.com staff as they try to weather a dramatic downturn in site traffic due to the lack of sports being played during the pandemic:

I wanted to bring to everyone's attention that the the DIII Championships Committee has decided that basketball has to have 60% participation for the NCAA tournament to move forward. That means if 40% or more call off playing, the tournament will pretty much be done.

Roughly that means we need 250 schools to still be playing - or not lose more than about 170.

Currently we have about 60 or so schools who will not be playing: https://www.d3sports.com/notables/2020/11/winter-is-coming-but-who-will-play

Has the NCAA waived minimum games for qualification? So if a conference, like the MIAA, were to get in a single round robin, would that qualify?

It's still 9 qualifying games, as far as I know.  As long as a team has nine d3 games against full members, they're eligible.

Sheesh - we don't have rosters yet for all 8 schools (only 4 public rosters posted) to know where / if the 2020 recruits landed, and we already have 4 recruits known for 2021.  Working on an update for the 2020 list (who is on a roster) as well as starting the 2021 list.  Will post those later

Kudos to you FDF for keeping these lists going.

I'm guessing (yes?) that this means there are a bunch of disappointed Hope recruits, who had let friends know they were coming to Hope hoping to play BB . . . but perhaps, for a few of these, their ambitions can get a fresh start next year?

I'm guessing you are correct - some may have not come to school at all, some may have decided to not tryout, some may have tried out and didn't make it...

Last I talked with anyone, which was a long while ago, JV basketball was very much up in the air.   I think it would be pretty difficult, even impossible, for JV ball to exist in this environment.

I think Hope had everyone who was expected at tryouts, save one who opted for online classes and is on the varsity, and one who had a medical issue before tryouts began.

Looks like all of EMU's games have ESPN3/ESPN+ streams so should be a good viewing opportunity for those with access.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

FYI - there is a difference between ESPN3 and ESPN+ ... ESPN3 (Watch ESPN) tend to be free to people (with cable access; i.e. if you are already paying for ESPN through your cable or streaming provider, you get ESPN3/Watch ESPN as bonus coverage). ESPN+ is pay-per ... a separate payment structure (you can pay for + and get everything else, I believe).

So it depends on which avenue they are on to dictate viewing opportunity.
