HOPEful

In line with the "viewing opportunities" theme, with the lack of the in-person option, I wonder if some of the the MIAA schools with lesser or non-existent live-streaming will invest the time and money to make this available for every game this season?

I know as a Hope season ticket holder, we were sent the option to buy "virtual tickets" as a way to help fund the Orange and Blue fund, as well as, offset part of the costs of no ticket sales and livestreaming of each game.

Olivet's roster  https://www.olivetcomets.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/roster
I think I count 5 new players from the JC route.

I believe its Ryan Robinette's uncle Brian who was a 3 time MIAA medalist in golf back in my era.  Only 3 guys have won medalist honors 3 times in the leagues history.  Brian might have won 4 if not for my teammates sensational Sr. season.

Bluffton 72 Adrian 71  F   from last night

They're playing each other again today.

Nice pickup for Hope: 6'8 - 6'9 Gabe Quillan from GR CC

Bluffton 68  Adrian 52  F

Looks like Adrian did not play its 4 highest minute/game players in this one.  Bellamy, Pelham, Warrick, Gillery

That is a nice pickup for Hope - Kid was getting recruited in the GLIAC (D2) as well

In just a year, Hope's roster has gotten significantly taller.  Great to see - was much needed

The whole league is generally trending a little taller.  Its been weird watching it go up and down over time.

Well that got me looking at rosters and yes, I had some time on my hands over lunch so I pulled this together (last 5 years of rosters, 15-16 season through 19-20).  Everything is in inches:

School ---- Average Height  ---- Shortest Roster / Season ---- Tallest Roster /Season

Adrian ---- 74.1 ---- 73.0 / 17-18 ---- 75.2 / 15-16
Albion ---- 74.6 ---- 74.2 / 16-17 ---- 74.9 / 18-19
Alma ---- 74.6 ---- 74.3 / 19-20 ---- 75.2 / 15-16
Calvin ---- 75.6 ---- 75.2 / 19-20 ---- 76.3 / 16-17
Hope ---- 74.6 ---- 74.3 / 19-20 ---- 74.9 / 18-19
Kazoo ---- 76.0 ---- 75.1 / 15-16 ---- 76.5 / 19-20
Olivet ---- 74.9 ---- 74.3 / 16-17 ---- 75.7 / 17-18
Trine ---- 74.7 ---- 74.5 / 15-16 ---- 75.3 / 17-18

MIAA AVG ---- 74.9 ---- 74.8 / 16-17 ---- 75.0 / 17-18

Adrian has the largest range while Hope has the smallest range.  I was surprised to see Kalamazoo as the tallest over this stretch, largely due to them having several years of no one under 73 in. on the roster.  I think it also pretty interesting that the overal league as whole has been pretty constant.

I did also compare guards (listed as G or G/F) vs non-guards (listed as G/F or W or F or F/C or C).  Not much range from year to year.  Guards average 72.5 inches, while the non guards average 77.5 inches.  Hoping to find some time to add rosters further back and will share that if I do.

Not terribly meaningful perhaps but hey, it is something basketball "statisticky" to do  ;D

Need to weight them by minutes, otherwise the 5-10 and 6-8 guys who ride pine are skewing things.

By trending taller, I mean over say the last 15 years, my viewing timeline is now pretty long.  We had a long stretch where the MIAA was quite short vs its neighbors and is still pretty undersized even with a few more big guys around.

Certainly didn't seem to do us any good!  ;)

HOPEful

I agree with sac on the minutes played... an extremely unathletic 6'10" player, who never sees meaningful minutes, is definitely inflating the numbers.

Also, we've seen plenty of valuable short guards over the last several seasons. I'll take another Chad Carlson, Danny Beckman, Dante Hawkins, or Riley Lewis at Hope any day!
