Week 2 Regional Rankings - which are ranked now: https://d3hoops.com/notables/2022/02/men-regional-rankings-first

6. Hope
7. Calvin
9. Trine

I think it's probably all moot, since even if Hope or Calvin were to win out and lose in the MIAA tournament championship game, their resumes wouldn't be enough to make the NCAA. However, perhaps hosting the first weekend could be a possibility?

I think hosting the first weekend is going to be entirely out of the question, even if Calvin or Hope completely win out.
I think Wednesday's winner has some chance of a Pool C berth (maybe approaching 50-50 odds) if they should they win out until the MIAA championship game. Wednesday's loser will probably not have a Pool C shot.

This area of the country almost always gets 6 or 7 hosting sites.  IF they choose to use the 7th hosting site, its probably going to CWRU/Mt. Union or LaCrosse and I wouldn't discount Wheaton or St. John's as possibilities.

For now Marietta, Wabash, IWU, WashU, Platteville, Oshkosh look in positions to host.

Do women or men have first rights to host this season?

Men have rights, but it won't matter for Hope.  The men will not be hosting.  At this point, whoever wins the MIAA will be the third seed in a pod.

I didn't think so.. More asking for CNU and MHB... but also Oshkosh and Marietta in the GL.

Most Hope fans would actually prefer the women not be sent on the road for the men to host anyways :)

Rankings will show it, but I don't think its a foregone conclusion Hope's women will host.

I agree, especially if they lose again to Trine in the MIAA tournament.

Agreed - my assumption is that the winner of the 3rd Hope/Trine women's contest (provided they each avoid any upsets early in the MIAA tourney) not only wins the auto-bid but also wins hosting.  That being said, they have previously been put in opposite sides of the bracket in the past, and with travel radius for flights increasing from 500 to 600 miles this season, who knows.  They might be able to each host in different sides of the bracket.  I believe they both certainly have earned that.

Now, back to MBB - the rivalry game tonight is the first game at De Vos since Feb 8 of 2020.  Additionally, it is likely (no matter the outcome tonight ) that Hope & Calvin finish as the top two teams for the first time since the 16-17 season

Thomas is clear cut league MVP.  Not even close.  Congratulations, Evan.

So if Albion beats Calvin on Saturday and Trine wins, there's a 3 way tie for 2nd. In such a situation, I believe they'd all tie in the head-to-head category... so the next tie breaker would be record against the 1st place team. Which would put Calvin as the 4 seed. Trine's two wins against Albion would then make them the 2 seed and Albion the 3 seed.

If Calvin beats Albion on Saturday, then they finish alone in 2nd. Trine would finish alone in third with a win and Albion alone in 4th.

Check.. Did I apply the tie-breakers correctly?

"Win or lose, this has been a great game." So I remarked with 10 minutes remaining in the Hope v Calvin nail biter, with both teams playing extraordinarily well. I've said that before at Hope v Calvin games, always presaging a Calvin win. But for once the ball bounced in Hope's favor . . . including Lilja's unlikely 3 point high bouncing shot, ET's rim roll near the end that led to a 3-point play, and Hope--a 30% 3-point shooting team--hitting 64% of their 3's. Fate (or was it Providence, OldKnight) smiled on Hope tonight.

And given how well Calvin played--54% shooting/44% on 3's, and only 9 turnovers--it took what was easily Hope's best game to edge the Knights, with the 93 to 81 final score not reflecting how back-and-forth close this game was. Hope fans will likely root for Calvin on Saturday, HOPEful, so they can delay having to face Calvin again. Tonight's performance will be hard to replicate.

All in all, the best played and most exciting DeVos game in a long while . . . living up to the rivalry tradition.

Going into tonight's Rivalry game, I thought Calvin had improved a lot since they last played Hope. I still think that is true, even after losing tonight. Unfortunately for the Knights, Hope has also improved as a team.

Calvin played 32 minutes of very good basketball, but Hope played 36 minutes of very good basketball, and that was the difference. Foul troubles with two starters -- and losing them both when the game was still very much in doubt -- is what really killed Calvin's chances. That and the fact that Hope only missed 16 shots all night. Calvin only had 20 rebounds in a 40 minute game, a mindboggling low number, but it's hard to get a lot of rebounds when your opponent shoots over 65%.

I'm pretty sure Evan Thomas secured the MVP award tonight. He was stellar.
