Josh Elliot  6-5 G/F Freeland will attend Alma

The overall size of this recruiting class (thus far) seems to be pointing to a potential shift in the league.  Now maybe it's too early to make that kind of statement, but just comparing the recruits from last year to this year is pretty telling.

2021 recruits - 36 total - avg height 6 ft 1.6 in - 5 recruits > 6-4 - 7 recruits < 6-0

2022 recruits - 35 total - avg height 6 ft 4.3 in - 16 recruits > 6-4 - 0 recruits < 6-0

Not only that, but quite a few of the 6-4/6-5 guys can in theory and sometimes practice put the ball on the floor and drive to the bucket.  Big guards(the WIAC/CCIW type) have been a sort of rarity for this league in the past decade or so.

Its always interesting how the recruit lists end up in a couple years, the Spring 2019 list which would be next years Seniors has 50 names on it and with a quick glance I see only 20 guys who are a part of varsity rosters, with maybe 1 or 2 still part of their programs.  Only about a dozen or so are regular minutes kind of players.

I understand the point about the Great Lakes Invitational, but the name does have a certain cachet to it.  It feels like it has been around forever and always will be around.  I cannot think of anything else to name it that would do that to be honest.

I'll leave it at that, lest I bore you all again about how the Great Lakes Conference is the worst name for a conference that has its geographical center around St. Louis.

I think you're thinking of the Great Lakes Valley Conference which if we're sort of dishonest is almost like saying Great Lakes Basin Conference.

WUPHF

Yes, just an honest typo.

The GLVC was never the proper name if you care about geography, but 12 of the 15 member schools are either in Missouri or within an hour drive.  The Indiana schools have been moving to Division I so it seems just a matter of time before it will become the worst name for a conference in college sports.

Fewer than 80% of the full members of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association are in Michigan.

But more than 77% are in Michigan, so that is pretty good.  100% are in Michigan or so close to Michigan that the Men's teams spend almost the entire drive in Michigan.

But the rest are in the geographic region commonly known as Michiana, so it's all good. ;)

This conversation is so #whyd3, lol.

Unfortunately, the conversation on the CCIW board has turned into #whydoegoandignoranceseemtogohandinhand.

I remember having a very in-depth conversation around the age of 8 with my parents on a road trip about how unfair it was Michigan City was in Indiana and there was no Indiana City in Michigan.

There is, however, an Indiana University in Pennsylvania.

And if Michigan City is too big for you, you could always go to Michigantown Indiana - smaller and even further from the state of Michigan.  I'm always teasing my Hoosier wife about some of the names of places in her home state - like French Lick (hometown of Larry Bird)

I'm still trying to wrap my head around there being a Wabash, IN and a Wabash College in Indiana, but Wabash College is not in Wabash, IN

Hardly seems mind boggling. There's a Portage, Wisconsin but it's not in Portage County.

Wisconsin would have had a lot of "Portages" at one time or another, but the names changed as they became incorporated.  The Portage outside Portage County must have been first to claim.

There was a game not to long ago that had to be postponed maybe eventually cancelled because the Indiana NAIA program (IU-Southeast I think) drove to Wabash instead of Crawfordsville.

In that vein I have intimate knowledge about a certain college golf team that recently won the MIAA qualifier that once went to a weekend tournament in Angola at then Tri-State only to arrive and find out they weren't even entered in the tournament.
