Trine 2022-23 MBB roster is "officially' up.

https://trinethunder.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/roster

16 guys on Varsity, 8 returners and 8 newcomers.  Class breakdown of 4 seniors, 4 juniors, 3 sophomores and 5 freshman.  My projection of starters would be:  G Conner Jones, F Brent Cox, C Emmanuel Megnanglo, G Jackson Jannsen and G Grant Pahl.  Pretty certain about Jones and Cox,  Megnanglo finally gets his opportunity to start and log more minutes.  Jannsen is a transfer from Manchester who should contribute right away.  Pahl is more of an uncertainty.  I like Soph Ryan Preston to get more time this year and I've heard good things about another transfer Cameron Awls from Defiance.  Of the freshmen I like Logan Gard to get a lot of time, and possibly Nathan Tucker who is a very good athlete.  I don't know much about another transfer from Northern Michigan, Reece Castor.

I'm expecting Brent Cox to have a bounceback year and have a huge season for Trine.

Kalamazoo roster is up, and includes 5 FR - the five we had on our "recruit" list:

Absolutely.  We need Brent to play like he's capable of, if not then our interior offense will be lacking this year.  Brent had good freshman and sophmore years then really regressed last year and lost his starting role to Mitch Geller, who played very well.  You could tell he didn't have the same confidence in his game.

With 4 of our 5 starters from last year gone (Bowman, Williams, Warzecha and Geller) we're going to need a lot of newcomers and guys who didn't play much last year to step up.

Just had a sneak peak at the combined Varsity/JV roster for Calvin and all 10 advertised freshman recruits and the lone transfer from UIndy are on the 22-man list. Surely some of the 10 frosh will be JV-only players but there are a lot of minutes up for grabs on this squad. Only one returning starter (Egekeze) and two other upper classmen who had significant playing time last year (Bult and Sensenig).
Calvin will be younger and woefully inexperienced, but bigger and more athletic.

Maybe it gets posted on the Calvin basketball page today?

I think the SID is working on it, although it might not indicate any Variety/JV distinction for a bit.

Wow. That's a young team. So, no seniors came back for a 5th year?

Calvin had four 5th year players last season,  3 others Sr's chose not to return to play basketball

And of those 3 seniors, Minderhoud and Cahalane didn't see much play. Katje was in the rotation most of the year, but was a bench player.

Thanks guys. I didn't realize there were so many 5thbyear players last season. Appreciate the input.

HOPEful

Just want to make sure I have this right... The extra year applies to anyone that would have used a year of eligibility during the 2020-21 season. So, assuming freshmen in the 2020-21 season are juniors this season, we have two more years after this season of potential 5th year seniors, correct?

Correct. The COVID year goes as a freebie for anyone who played during it.

I have not heard any comments about the effect that so many seniors and grads leaving had on the tremendous recruiting success this year, but I have to think that the opportunity to play soon had a major effect.  I expect several frosh to be seeing a lot of playing time.  One or more freshman starters would not be a shock later in the year.
