OshKosh looked like a top 10 team. Calvin notched a really impressive win on their resume.
Would you agree Hope is also a top-10 team this season?  They seem to have the coach and the players for it.

I think the potential is there. The three-guard combo of Dykhouse, Thomas, and Wourman is electric but the offense has struggled with consistency. They were down 11 at halftime against UWW last night with only 30 pts and shooting 26% from the field and 1 for 12 from 3. The second half they shot 65% from the field and were 3 for 5 from 3.

The Hope team in the first half against Oshkosh and the Hope team in the second half against Whitewater is a top 10 team. The team in the second half against Oshkosh and the team in the first half against Whitewater is an ORV caliber team. Quillan continues to impress, so when you have a couple really good seniors like Thomas and Dykhouse and a 6'9" guy that can hold his own in the paint... you have the makings of a special year. But there's a lot of basketball to be played before March.

An unevenly played game by the Knights, on the road. With so many new players, and several freshmen playing major minutes, it's not surprising to see that. But at least Calvin left the Windy City with a 65-62 win over IIT and an unblemished 4-0 record on the season. Didn't see that coming when the year started. It was also nice to see Uchenna back in the lineup.

Overway had 20 points and 9 rebounds, Egekeze netted 16, and Owen Varnado contributed 12 points. Owen does occasionally make the freshmen mistake, trying to do too much, but his athleticism and talent level is so impressive, it's hard to imagine he will be a nonstarter much longer.

Interestingly, Varnado got the start in the second half with Bult coming off the bench because of three first half fouls.

Hoping someone can help me clarify something that happened in the Hope @ UWW game last night.

Elijah Lambert (00) for UWW was called for a tehcnical foul at the 14:09 mark of the 2nd half.  It was after he was fouled by Clayton Dykhouse but I couldn't tell if it was something he sadi or something he did, nonetheless he got the T.

With 3:09 left in the game he was called for a flop (and flop warnings are gone) so he was assessed his second technical (a flop is a Class B technical), but he was not ejected from the game despite having two technical fouls.  Was this a miss by the officials, or is the the fact that it's a Class B mean it doesn't count toward an ejection?

Class A is for unsportsmanlike conduct - two and you're out.
Class B is for plays where there's no contact (there's a surprisingly long list of ways you can get one).  Three Class Bs gets you ejected.

If you get one Class A and two Class Bs, then you are also ejected from the game.
A flagrant 2, fighting, or leaving the bench are all automatic ejections.

There are also Administrative Techs for uniform and equipment issues, too many players on the court, calling timeouts you don't have, or fan behavior, etc - those do not accumulate.

Thanks Ryan - I assumed it must be something like that, and appreciate knowing the nuances of the combinations  +k

That one left me stumped. I watched North Park scrimmage IIT at Keating Sports Center three weeks ago, and ... well, let's just say that I wasn't wowed by the Scarlet Hawks. NPU won the scrimmage, 90-60, and I know that it was just a scrimmage, but ... come on. Milos Dugalic, IIT's 6'9 big man, is a stud, and Garrison Carter is a pretty good shooter (especially from the corner), but other than that the Scarlet Hawks really didn't strike me as being anywhere close to the sort of outfit that could hang with an ORV team like Calvin for 40 minutes.

Agreed, GS. It had all the makings of a blowout with the Knights taking a 46-30 lead early in the second stanza. But then, the air just slowly seeped out of the Calvin attack and IIT slowly, steadily chipped away, in part on the strength of some sharpshooting from the Scarlet Hawks' Otis Reale, the pride of Servite High School in Rome, Italy. He dropped 36 on Cal Lutheran early in the season and scored the majority of his 16 points in this tilt during the IIT comeback effort. Calvin shot 50 percent from the field, but struggled from the FT line.

Calvin really didn't handle the pressure well, either the full-court variety coming up the court, or in the half-court variety of pressuring the ball.

In several decades of watching sports (not just Calvin basketball), I can't tell you how mnay times I have said the same thing. In 2000, Calvin played a very bad Alma squad in the first game of the MIAA tournament. Mid-way through the second half, the game was tied, and the Knights struggled to a 79-73 win on their home court. About a month later, Calvin won the national championship in Salem, VA. Inexplicable. And no, I don't see the 2022-23 team as national champs.

Just FYI I don't think Bill Sall is going to call it good and stop recruiting. ;)
