And on a completely different note, did D3 change the color of the links on this page?  The board has seemed different the last week or two and I have had a hard time putting my finger on what it is.  This is my best guess.

Yes, we did. Changed shades of blue. :)

Does no one else see the irony?  One poster says Hope doesn't need banners because we have friends, are good people etc. etc. etc., and several post later in comes a defense for hanging a 2nd place banner.

If you are referring to me, I only said that I didn't envy the banners that Calvin has, that's much different than saying there shouldn't be any banners

I really am not impressed by a banner or what it represents.  As soon as it's won, its history.

What you said is quoted above.  That is the quote Realist and I referred to. You seem to be contradicting yourself.

You are right.  My apologies to you.

Didn't change it back, but your home machine may have the old style sheet cached. If you hit refresh it might change for you.

I would agree - I don't think the transfers or team chemistry had a negative impact on the Dutchmen this year.  Finishing games - now that was a problem.   For some reason our offense seemed to run out of gas at the most in-opportune time - the last 5 minutes of a game.   Would have loved to see the womens team give the guys a few pointers on that subject - they were phenominal at finishing.
Been on vacation for a while-Spring Break down south, so I am just catching up--do you think that Hope swamping so many teams earlier in the season contributed to the difficulties closing out the close games?  If you are used to winning by 20, then a close game can be hard to finish out.

Everyone knows where I stand on this....it had zero impact.  DVS didn't come in to Hope and play right away, he sat for 5 weeks before takeing the floor and when he did he was clearly.......and I mean CLEARLY the 2nd best point gaurd Hope had.

Catch 22........if GVW doesn't play VanSolkema people would be questioning his judgement for not playing someone that good.

29-3, MIAA Tournament Champs and Sweet 16 of NCAA tournament.  I don't see what the problem is.

The problem is that a team that well-stocked should have gone further.

Besides - we'll never be jealouse of anything that is maroon and gold (or whatever those colors are).

What about those beautiful maroon and gold banners that hang from the rafters at the
fieldhouse?  You're telling us there is no envy that the ceiling at the "dick" is empty of
such banners?

See, here is the defining difference between Calvin and Hope fans...  Calvin fans are rabidly proud of their banners (pieces of cloth with some words on them).  Hope fans are proud of their teams, and the individuals they represent.  Seriously, I don't really care, do you?  I've been to Salem the last time Hope's men went, and I was at Springfield Mass. this year watching the women hug the walnut and bronze, and while I'm happy for whichever individuals get that far in a season, I really am not impressed by a banner or what it represents.  As soon as it's won, its history.

Now, many of you will doubt my sincerity (and perhaps my sanity), but that's the way I see it.  You can point to two banners and say "see?  We were really cool back then."  I can point to about 40 Hope players and say "See?  He's a friend of mine, and I'm really proud of who he is as a person, and how he played back then."  I admit its a subtle difference that you may never understand, but, well, who cares?   ;)

C'mon CM--it is nice to talk about the friends you are proud of, but the banners represent an accomplishment, not just how cool we were back then or some fabric.  I was at both Calvin's National Championship wins, and it was evident from the reaction of the players and the fans that they were pleased with having used their talents to do together what no other team had done.  They were the best non-paid group of basketball athletes in the country.

How many NCAA Championships will Hope have to win before they take down the NCAA 2nd place banners?

What's wrong with a second place banner?  Should they give back the trophies as well?

One win   ;D

I can hear a new response to the" where's your banner," cheer. It's
"our endowment is bigger." ;D
