Puls for Hope is a project in terms of body size, think Josh Bauman without the muscles. :D

Sac, when I think of Josh Bauman without the muscles, very little comes to mind. ;)

But 6-10 is 6-10, and no one thought Don Overbeek would amount to much when he came out of high school.

Best Wishes for a banner year!  ;) :D

Don't say that!  Then if they don't win the "banner" some wag will come on here and say they should have gone further.

Didn't the men hang a hoops banner this year?  What is Hope's standard for putting one up?  ;)

Another kid to Adrian: Sam Snow, 6-3/6-4-ish from Leslie. Slithery type of wing, baseline guy, kind of like Craig Veldman, maybe not as strong though. But he's a Class C scorer, so may take some time to become an all-around player.

Hey there.  Been lurking here for a few years, and have always wanted to ask the following question.  It appears that this board has a bias against Cornerstone.  Am I just imagining something as a lurker?  My apologies if I am bringing up a hashed and re-hashed topic, if so, just refer me to the correct page # and I will get the information there.

Just for reference, I usually post over on the CCIW pages.  You guys definitely have a great board and I really enjoy the talk that goes on in here.  Maybe I will actually get to a MIAA game this year seeing as I am about 3 1/2 hours closer to Adrian/Albion than the closest CCIW school!

I don't know about the posters ... MIAA coaches don't like the fact that it makes their recruiting that much harder because Cornerstone can give money. Whether there's actually animus towards the school or coaches, I've never heard anything like that.

Think of it as a scholarship vs. no scholarship rivalry.  MIAA schools have lost several recruits to Cornerstone, primarily it seems because of money offered.  And Calvin, at least, has the haunting memory of Fultice transfering over...

Thanks.  The scholarship v non-scholarship thing makes sense.  Also, didn't mean to insinuate that there was an actual dislike for Cornerstone, more just like a "Oh no, I didn't want that kid to go there" type of thing.

Hey, not a problem -- glad you de-lurked to ask! :)

Some good news for Hope fans after swallowing the bitter pill of losing Mantel and Venema (and maybe Battista?):

Steve Kratz of Ludington (long like Andy Phillips, also is an outstanding tennis player like Andy) is in...Of course he said that four months ago, but it's now official.

A favorite of mine from the early 80's, Dan
Gustad, was also from Ludington  -  I hope the new recruit can be as intimidating around the basket as old Gus used to be...
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Have been following the discussion re: the recruiting and it does present an interesting dilemma for these young men.  The choice then comes down to either going for the $  i.e. higher grant/scholarship to help defray the cost of one's education (which, of course, is the priority aspect as we all know) and give up playing in front of much bigger crowds at Hope and Calvin as opposed to much fewer fans at a Cornerstone game.  This is not intended as a negative, nor is it taking into consideration the academic curriculum that a student-athlete may choose to pursue, depending on the school.  Rather, I'm just referring to the choice with respect to the athletic issues/choices at hand.  Not always an easy decision for anyone.

I've got to chime in on this Cornerstone issue. I can't speak for past problems with Cornerstone, but I have to say that I have not been overly impressed with the class of the program. Every institution has scandals and black sheep, but it seems to be a pervasive attitude amongst Cornerstone players to be as cocky and classless as they can be. I know that not all players at Cornerstone are like that, but a good many of them are. It just seems that character and leadership qualities are not encouraged or built up in that program. This is coming from one extremely biased observer, being a Calvin fan and all. That said, no team that Calvin plays against draws my ire like Cornerstone.
Possibly the only group comparable is Albion's fans, and they are usually extremely funny and not cocky. You get the feeling at the game that it's all in good intent (at least good intent for their own team, not yours). Not the same feeling with Cornerstone. With my 20-20 hindsight vision, if I were just coming out of high school and being recruited by an MIAA school or Cornerstone, I don't think I would let the money sway my decision over the atmosphere of the place. But of course, I'm speaking from biased hindsight.

Two of Albion's recruiting priorities, Jared and Aaron List from Frankenmuth, are headed to Spring Arbor.
