Greg, anygame with KVS at the helm, he finds a way to make his team better. Thank you . I'm out!
"I started to look around at the fans and the team and I was sitting in the back, and I looked around and everybody was having a good time and that day, it truly made me realize what Michigan was about. It took me down, it humbled me. It taught me how to be a Michigan man instead of Jason Avant."

With the Knights entering the 2005-06 season somewhat green and with a lot of unknowns I do think the game Calvin played last November against Grace was helpful. It allowed VandeStreek to play and evaluate a lot of players under game conditions to see how they might react to various roles, and it also allowed the players to begin to have their roles defined in their own minds. Grace wasn't good enough to beat Calvin but they were good enough to provide real game conditions--something that is hard to do in either intrasquad or intersquad scrimmages. If Grace is reasonably competitive again this coming fall I have no problem with Calvin scheduling them again for the first game of the season since the Knights have to replace 2 starters. Calvin's schedule is up on their website and it does show them playing at the Wooster tournament December 29-30. Combined with the MIAA/CCIW challenge games at Carthage in December I like Calvin's nonconference schedule this year. Calvin also has Illinois Benedictine and Concordia (Wis.) in the Tip-Off Tournament but I don't think either of those teams were very good last year.

It looks like Calvin's non-league schedule is missing Ferris State this year.  It also shows 10 non-league games, last year there were 11.  I'm hoping that game is added because I think that is a good game for Calvin to play.

Anyone hear anything on where Tri-unity's Jon Visser is looking?  Calvin's bringing in a lot of size but I haven't heard much about any perimeter players, other than that Muskegon Western Michigan Christian's Will Bruinsma may try to play both basketball and soccer at Calvin.  Visser would fit well at Calvin, I think.

At this point, I want Calvin to grab Matt Veltema and a guard to supplement/push Micah Chappell.  Perhaps Calvin's out-of-state recruiting will produce one.

Damn, tell the truth about Douma and all my karma disappeared?

I'll keep dropping knowledge on you, though, even while the faceless junior high girls play petty Internet games.

and you wonder where your karma goes!

Did I just miss all of the Hope recruit posts, or are they having a down year? What about Albion? All i've been hearing is Calvin gets this guy and Calvin gets that guy. It's scary  :-[

I tried to consult the ever-truthful Mlive board and ran across some funny posts. Check out 1725.1.1 and let me know what you think. Some of the responses are good too...

Twas the opposite from April through December last year

Looks like we might be having the same stupid conversations, over, and over again next year............maybe.

Excited about the kid from Ludington for Hope, and Calvin for the first time in a few years seems to be getting some local kids.

With the D1 transfer to Albion, do they really need more?

Mr. Bell thanks for the recruiting info, very nice addition to the board.

It looks Will Bruinsma, 6'3" guard from WMC is going to Dordt (IA) to play Soccer and B-ball.  I believe he had been rumored to be going to Calvin.  Here is the link.

Ask any of the Hope players if they need more than a DI transfer...

Matt Veltema officially a Knight.

If this is true (and I heard it early this morning from an unimpeachable source myself), then KVS has landed two of his top three targets this year (missing out only on Ryan Zwier, who took the money to go to C'Stone).  Mantel and Veltema are huge additions to the program -- and great kids, to boot. ;D

I got the voicemail stating it last night and confirmed it this mourning. I'm pretty sure my source is realiable  ;D. This might be the two best recruiting classes KVS had put together back to back since being here. This might not be the end of it either. Stay tuned.

That is great news for the Knights.  I had heard strong rumors from several sources to this effect, but it is nice to have more certain info.  What is the thought about how quickly these news kids can contribute?

Yep, my people also gave word today that Veltema's a Knight.

Sweet, sweet, sweet.

Now, they just need a combo guard in this class.  Anyone know if Lynden or Pella or Timothy or Illiana had any decent guards this year who haven't announced?

And I'm somewhat curious where Brett Kissane from GR South Christian is going.
