I was at Trinity Christian's OT loss to St. Xavier (NAIA D1 #16) a few weeks back.  Keep in mind that SXU had their All-American big guy, Jabari Saunders, for that game vs Trinity.  (They played without Saunders for the entire 2nd Half in the big win over Illinois-Chicago, as well as the whole game in SXU's win over NAIA D2 #7 Huntington (IN)...Saunders also missed the recent loss @ IWU.)  Bottom line - St. Xavier is a really good team and Trinity took them to OT with SXU at full strength.

That being said, an MIAA championship caliber team should not be down 18 points in the 2nd Half (at home or on the road) to Trinity Christian.  But it sounds to me like Calvin fans realize the Knights are not "MIAA championship caliber" right now, and sort of in rebuilding mode a little...maybe trying to put things together for a solid conference showing.  If that is the case, I wouldn't apologize or worry about a 1 point win vs Trinity Christian at this stage of the season.  The Trolls are a well-coached team with good balance and they play really hard.  They have 2 or 3 guys who'd be solid MIAA performers.

Hope plays at Trinity Christian on Tuesday 12/6.  I think I'm going to make the 2 hour drive to see Hope play, just as I did for the St. Xaver/Trinity game.  I have a strong suspicion that my Illinois Wesleyan Titans will run into the Flying Dutchmen in a huge NCAA tournament game this year.  Need the scouting report on Hope!  (Sac, I'm still looking for that Division 3 title game of Hope vs IWU that we didn't get in 1996 due to IWU's heartbreaking loss to Rowan in the semis.)

Note to Pat Coleman - Hope's 12/6 game @ Trinity Christian is not on the D3hoops.com Hope schedule page.

Enough of this non-conference junk.  I want to see some MIAA action, although the MIAA/CCIW Challenge will be good too.

TitanQ:
Pretty much everyone in MIAAland is well aware that the Knights are a shadow of the team that overachieved last year.  The preseason poll of the league's coaches put Calvin third, behind Hope and Albion.  That might be generous.
But Vande Streek is pretty good at getting the most out of his talent.
You may get your deferred wish for an IWU-Hope showdown this year.  Hope does appear to be loaded.

Hopefan - congrats!  I just can't imagine Grampa S, but time marches on.  If you head up for a game, be sure and let me know.  I might even have a spare seat.

The Adrian College Bulldogs claimed a couple of players off waivers this week.  The team is starting to shape up.  With these two players back in uniform for Adrian, things just got better for Adrian faithful.

More to come later.

Bluffton should be shocked on Saturday.  I know I would.  I'd be like who the hell is this guy?

What a game in the MAC title tonight at Ford Field.  Akron scores with :10 left to win it!  Wow!  Go Zips!

Lol... so I had to work way over time today, and my boss mentioned that I could leave really early tomorrow... so I thought... dang, maybe I should just fly out and watch the MIAA - CCIW challenge? But, uh, if there might not even  tickets? Hmm, I don't know  if that's such a bright idea.  :-\
Wait, dunks are only worth two points?!?!!!? Why does anyone do them? - diehardfan

So, now Hope gets an "unofficial" official apology from the D3hoops staff? Nice...

Also lost in the shuffle this week is the fact that the 2 All-Americans featured in opening night at the Devos just so happen to have had more good games since then, and are now in the lastest team of the week:

Actually, I do think it's the men's team, as the women were ranked #15 in the preseason poll. But either way, the love abounds!

Any posters who will be at the MIAA/CCIW challenge in Holland this weekend:
Let's meet under the photo for mens basketball.  I'll be the guy wearing orange shorts!

FDF - I think the orange shorts thing has scared them off! :o  You'll be able to tell the posters by the ones who are nervously looking around for the whack-o guy in resort-wear... 8)

Knowing that you're really a harmless, nice guy, I'll probably join you...

Snoeyink and Meckes both played, and the knights knocked off Carthage this evening, 82-78. KVS said that this was the best team they'd faced so far apart from Ferris St. And no more time for Veldhouse under the radar -- he scored 24 points on 8/9 shooting and 6/6 free throws.

Glad you enjoyed the apology.

Btw Hope is out to a sizeable lead at the half -- maybe 13 or so.  It was relatively close (a couple points) until a late Dutch run.

Good to see Caleb come out more assertively on offense.  Watching some of the earlier games I wished he would shoot more.  This kid is going to be really good and may end up with an MIAA MVP or two before his Calvin career is over.  I look forward to checking out the new arena and rooting on the baby Knights tomorrow!
