That Carthage/Calvin score really surprised me. Given Calvin's injuries and relative lack of experience, and Carthage's wealth of experience and the tough schedule that they've played to date, I had the Red Men pegged as winning this game by 8-12 points. That's a really solid win by the Knights.

It's the game that I was most sure the CCIW representative would win in this season's Challenge. Now I'm thinking that the MIAA could go 4-0 and sweep it.

The shorts are fine, but the legs could use a long sun-drenched weekend in the tropics, FDF.
Nice to meet the Orange people tonight -- FDF, Civic Minded, gohope, and the nice young man whose handle I cannot recall.
The DeVos is stunning, as expected.
It was great to see Calvin get a win in the Dutchmen's brand new digs right away.  Here's to another one tomorrow... and many more in the future.
The future is looking brighter.

Surprise is definately the word for the Calvin win, but without Meckes Calvin doesn't win.  I didn't see enough to give a great report but Veldhouse is Calvin's best overall player, at least today.  Without Meckes Calvin is badly outmanned inside.  This is easily the youngest looking Calvin team I can remember.  But there is some good talent there and they'll be a handfull in Calvin's Fieldhouse.

As for Carthage, one un-named poster commented "they look like they have jetlag".  Really good win for Calvin.

GK - if you want to take up a collection for the FDF travel fund, I'll be happy to go south (say Florida) - once the season is over.  Hey, I could just go to Florida from Salem :)

Great night for the MIAA.  Veldhouse is probably going to be a name that Hope fans will get tired of hearing for the next 4 years.  If the rest of the guys can get healthy, the Knights will be a formidable team.  Draayer looks to be suffering from the back injury.  Not much jump in that shot.

Carthage looked flat, and was really only in the game thanks to some timely 3's.

Hope was again awesome - great team defense.  Cramer, Carlson, and others did a good job of shutting down Bohlens.  He had 5 at the half and finished with 9 or so, well below his 24 point average.  Defense is the key for this team - big surpise there huh?

Wheaton played some really good team defense as well, especially on Phillips.  Problem is that leaves VanderHeide free and he poured in 18.  Game was close until 5 minutes left in the first half.  Hope went on a run and lead by 13 at the half.  Big run to open the second half put the game away.  Hope lead by as many as 30, with nearly every player scoring.

Looking forward to 2 more games tomorrow.

In the nightcap Hope 93 Wheaton 67

Strange game in some ways, Hope outrebounded, Wheaton shoots over 50% and Hope wins big.

To sum it up, defense, defense defense.  When Hope turned up the D it was a route and that was from about the 10 mark of the 1st on.

Wheaton opened with a tough zone and really collapsed hard on the inside.....sometimes triple teaming.  It was really only a matter of time before Hope started hitting those open 3's which they finally did in the 2nd and blew the game open.

Lots of guys played well and I thought really showed a lot of weapons tonight.  Phillips was definately the focus of the Thunder D which opened up some opportunities for VanderHeide who played his best game for the Dutchmen in my opinion.

Imminks ability to push the ball also helped set a nice offensive agressiveness theat was there all night.  There was some good up and down action in this one.

At the half it was Hope 43 Wheaton 30 and I could only think that Hope didn't even play well.  Hope quickly blew the game open in the second as Jeff Carlson buried a couple treys to bump the lead over 20.  The lead grew to as many as 30 before things settled down.

Wheaton is a shadow of the team at last years CCIW/MIAA challenge, much like Hope was last year.  They're young and undersized.

Carthage should come out tomorrow fighting mad, I know Bosko looked pretty upset with the way his team finished the Calvin game.

I think we'll see a stiff challenge in the Red Men.

"That's a really solid win by the Knights."

Huh?

Gregory Sager, Carthage is going to finish 5th in the CCIW.  How is beating a 5th place team a "solid win"?

Unfortunatey in the MIAA/CCIW tourney this year, the CCIW has two pretty poor teams.  Illinois Wesleyan, Augustana, Elmhurst, and North Central are our best teams.

Can someone give me the cross streets for the DeVos fieldhouse?

Context, augiedad.

Calvin was picked 3rd in the MIAA, but the CCIW is a stronger conference. Besides that, the knights have only 7 returning players, 4 of whom are ailing. Actually, one's out for the season, so maybe we should say that there are only 6 returning players.

Freshmen played about 40% of the minutes, and they've only been collegiate players for a month.

I'd say it was a solid win for the young Calvinites.

What are the chances of getting tickets for the Calvin-Wheaton game at the door?

And what intersection is DeVos near?

it is on 9th st and colledge     if you get there at  12.00  or  12.30  a pretty good chance of getting tickets for the game
i love hope  sports all of them are really great to watch

It's 9th and Lincoln. Take the Zeeland exit like you were going to the Civic and you'll see it.

A win over a team like Carthage, traditionally a solid team, is a good win. Much like any win over Hope or Calvin, despite where the program may be at that moment is a good win.

Remember that last year, Hope was supposed to return 5 starters from a 5 loss MIAA championship team and they were all wearing a tie for the Carthage game at Wheaton. I don't think Carthage was going to discount that win.
Don't get caught watching the paint dry.

ziggy--come into Holland on Chicago drive and you really can't miss the place.  Take Fairbanks or Lincoln and your there.

9th and College will take you to a nice establishment for a post game meal and beverage.  ;D

Augiedad--I consider it a solid win by Calvin as well, these Knights are very young and inexperienced.  They played like veterans down the stretch.  Carthage was the better team but Calvin won the game.

Again, the Hornets beat a team they were supposed to beat last night v. Davenport, 75-43. Very balanced attack with McCain leading the way in the 2nd half. Tonight is a tremendous opportunity for K against Aquinas. Lets see where they measure up.
