Once they start playing, it doesn't matter if it's basketball, tiddly winks, or rock/paper/scissors- this is Hope/Calvin and it will be awesome.

One of the best quotes ever, I may steal that one for my signature.

Griffen is a terrific pickup for Knights (shockingly a transfer)

But not midseason!  ;) ::)

Just doesn't seem right that I just finished mowing the lawn, and later in the same day I'm going to a Hope/Calvin game.

so strange for them (Calvin and Hope) to meet pre-season!  wish I could be there -- should be a doozy!

First time they've ever met in this tournament, not sure about other preseason tournaments or games.

It's not a preseason game, people. It's a regular season game.

Series is Calvin 81 Hope 80 with just 22 points separating the two teams.

If I remember correctly, Hope is the school with the 22-point all-time advantage in spite of being down a game to Calvin, right?

The Calvin team better be prepared to run in Monday's practice.

Some random thoughts on tonight's debacle at Knollcrest.

I heard several people around me remark on how much better Hope shot than did Calvin. That remark completely ignores the main reason why Hope shot better--Hope either passed the ball inside or did some nice dribble penetration which either led to a shot close to the basket or caused defensive help. When the help came Hope kicked it out to a shooter who was spotted up. It's amazing how much easier a 3 pointer is when you have the time to step into the shot as did Hope for most of the night. By contrast, Calvin was limited to passing the ball around the perimeter for most of the shot clock. They rarely passed the ball to an interior player and, for the first half, never did any dribble penetration. The quality of Calvin's shots were far poorer than was Hope's selection.

Hope is an excellent defensive team. A lot of Calvin's problems were caused by the fact that Hope worked hard to keep the post players from establishing low post position. But their perimeter defense was also outstanding and Calvin never got into any offensive comfort zone because of that. The Knights did try in the second half--with some success--to get the ball inside but Hope already had well established the pace of flow of the game by then. Hope also killed Calvin on the boards.

VanSolkema completely outplayed Veldhouse. I think anyone at the game recognized it as easily the worst performance in Veldhouse's career. Caleb hardly played at all in the second half and rightly so.

Zoerhof is in the process of playing himself out of a starting job. He seemed lost all night and contributed nothing on either end of the floor. The door is opening for both Chappell and Veltema to get more minutes if they perform well.

It's pretty apparent Zach Osburn was strictly a football player at NIU (is that where he went?). He didn't play many minutes but he got 3 quick fouls along with doing some rugged rebounding. He was a one man wrecking crew tonight.

Absolutely awesome defensive display by the Dutchmen tonight.  Calvin looked like the deer in the headlights all night.  I'm sure the three previous games the Knights have played had defense no where near what they saw tonight.  I also know that the Knights had a really rough night

Hope is an extremely athletic team with a lot of interchangable parts.  Still sad to see Partridge go down early with a high ankle sprain - suspect he'll be back in a week or so.

Loved the rebounding from a multitude of Hope players tonight, and they just "out efforted" Calvin.

Caleb looked like a freshman for the first time in his life, despite being a sophomore.

I'm sure we will be in for some epic battles when these teams meet again later this season.

Mr. Sager - around here we call them pre-season - you can call them whatever you want.
