I thought the refs did a good job in the 1st half of just letting the guys play, and then really buckled down in the second half. With around 12 minutes or so to go in the 2nd half both teams had 6 team fouls.  There were some ticky tack fouls called, but I think they were called both ways. At the end it did seem like Carthage got the calls, but that was when Hope was going crazy trying to get steals and force turnovers in the last 2 minutes or so.  I agree both offenses were very sloppy at times, a game that definitely could have gone either way.

Wow, not what I was expecting last night at all. Very disappointed in the Knights. The bad defense is becoming a disturbing trend. Not surprised they lost (Kent Raymond can keep them in the game against almost anyone), but more the fashion of it. I was expecting a better effort after last weekends dabacle at K'Crest. Giving up close to 50 in the first half of games isn't going to get it done. Looks as if KVS has some major work to do! But they are still young and inexperience and that tends to show at the start of the year.  As for Hope, when you get 0 pts from the 5 spot and only hit 2 three's it's going to be tough to win many games no matter who your playing.
"I started to look around at the fans and the team and I was sitting in the back, and I looked around and everybody was having a good time and that day, it truly made me realize what Michigan was about. It took me down, it humbled me. It taught me how to be a Michigan man instead of Jason Avant."

I said before the beginning of the season that I thougt it would take longer than most people though for Calvin to get use of the losses of Draayer and Trewella.

Non-MIAA comment warning!!! Top story of the day is Lincoln's 201 point game against OSU-Marion last night. While anyone that scores 201 points against anyone else is impressive I can't help but think this shows an outstanding amount of bad sportsmanship and total lack of class by Lincoln, its coaching staff, and team. Someone scored 69 points and hit 21 threes!!! Every year you read a story or two on espn.com or si.com about a high school football coach that runs up the score against inferior competition and this criticism is rightly applied. Just because a coach has made it to the college level does not mean he has a right to embarass a team or its program. I just looked at OSU-Marion's website. They have 10 players, none of whom seem to have an imposing presence. Lincoln would be well deserving not to win another game this year after such an exhibition.

The pain continues in Kenosha this weekend.

Wheaton 73
Hope 70

The Dutchmen had a 6-point lead at the half, but the Thunder came back.

If the Knights don't turn things around quickly, it'll be 0 for Wisconsin for the league this weekend.

The more I think about it the more unimpressed I am with Lincoln. I am impressed some of OSU-Marion's players didn't "accidentally" start jumping forward to block threes so the Lincoln players did not have to worry about landing on their feet after every shot and be concerned about a sprained ankle.

Very disappointing weekend for Hope. After the big win at Calvin I started to have more confidence in the team. It seems everyone in the MIAA has a long way to go this year.

Begs the question of why a D-II school with some success like Salem International would invite this team to its tournament.

It's important to note that OSU - Marion is a two-year branch of Ohio State.

True, a branch of OSU. Something else to note. OSU-Marion's roster does not even include the players' heights or weights. Clearly an overmatched team. Pat asks a great question as to why Salem would invite OSU-Marion! Maybe they were a last minute fill in. Any chance Lincoln's records wouldn't stand because they were playing against what is essentialy a juco rather than a 4 year college?

Terrible weekend for Hope, much more in the future than right now. 2 in-region losses in the first 4 games does not bode well for a squad that will probably pretty much need to win the conference in order to get into the tourney come spring. If Calvin goes 0-2 for the year, I can almost garauntee there will only be 1 team from the MIAA going to the big dance.

On a less-pessimistic note, is anyone else as suprised as I was at how Hope and Calvin came out this weekend? I really thought that they would be better teams... perhaps I'm not giving enough credit to Carthage and Wheaton - I'm not sure.

/end rant

Looking forward to the MIAA season to start  ;D
