FDF-

I don't know man, I want this information to be wrong.  I want to see a 50 point blowout over patsy madonna.  I'm about ready to call the sentinel up myself and find out.

Someone at Hope who reads these boards all day long, please page Tom Renner and get us the scoop.

WHTC is still promoting their coverage of the game tonight - and didn't include it in their short list of cancellations

True enough goodknight. I probably should leave the decision of honorary MIAA Board status to a Hall of Famer such as the esteemed sac rather than presume to arrogate that decision for myself.

Oh! Oh! Scott... Can I be an honorary "lets talk MIAA" member?  ;D Pretty please? I promise that I didn't just mention ketchup and mustard on the "best d3 facility" board yesterday... :D

As hope1 said - the final was 83-76.  The game was ugly - from Hope's perspective.  Seeing Madonna's quickness and 3 point shooting I can understand why they beat Alma and Olivet.

The first half was really all Madonna - they played good D, shot the ball extremely well, and generally had control of the game.  Halftime score was 44 - 39 Madonna.

The second half opened up with Hope scoring the first 6 points, and it went back and forth until the 13 minute mark.  At that point Madonna was up 53-51.  Hope then went on a 19-0 run.  Madonna finally scored again at the 8 minute mark.  Hope was up 70-55 at that point.  With about 4 minutes left, the 3rd string went in for Hope, but Madonna kept chipping away.  They got as close as 77-70 but the 3rd string played tough and got the win.

Hope scoring:  Voisin 18, Cramer 13, Phillips 13, Immink 11

My thoughts from the game:

- Once again Hope plays some really tough D for a 5-6 minute stretch and completely dominates the game.

- The balanced scoring makes it really tough - at one point 4 starters had 11 points

- Marcus VanderHeide was again missed.  He did suit up, but didn't get to play.

- What the heck was GVW thinking when Madonna cut the lead to 7 with 2 minutes left and they had the ball- and he leaves in the 3rd string.  Considering the outcome - I guess that's why he's the coach - but I gotta tell you I was not very comfortable with it

In the first game of the night, Aquinas beat Marygrove 88-81 - so we get a rematch with the Saints.  Neither team will be going into tomorrows game feeling all that great about tonight.  I wonder if there wasn't a little "looking ahead" going on.

That's the rumor this alum is hearing.  Apparently there is a vote going on from four choices on the internal Hope website.  Anyone care to post or im me the pictures?  Thanks!

But, David, isn't Heinz already the mascot/star for Beloit?

Oops, that's Hinz!  [Emily Litella voice] Never mind!

(And are you sure you would want all the 'hot dog' references?!)

I'm never going to live the ketchup and mustard thing down am I?  It might be more funny (doubt it) to know there's a lovely Heinz pickle factory in town.

Well from afar I'm pleased the Dutch won tonight, quietly I've thought this could be a closer than expected game.  I certainly don't "relish" playing AQ without VanderHeide considering the way the first one went.  It really should be a good game.

The ole ball coach did the same on Tues with the rotations, maybe he just knows his #1 guys can kick it in at the drop of a hat. 8)

Mascot? we don't need no stinkin' mascot. ::)

MIdoubleA

Tonights Hope vs. Madonno game merely reinforced any discontent of questionable reffing. To say that it was horrible both ways is an understatement.

I too was confused with GVW's choice to leave his 3rd stringers in, but I've come to the decision that his confidence in them helped them step up and finish off a Madonna team that just wouldn't die.

As far as our mascots go, there are 4 choices. Unfortunately, both our online school newspaper and the voting form are down right now so I cannot upload any pictures. Two of the mascots are aviators and two are sailors.

The aviators seem to be some sort of literal version of "flying dutchmen" and one of them is actually a squirrel. All I can say about that is that it had better not win. The other looks pretty regular with an old school hat on and flying goggles to boot.

The two captains look way better. They seem to fit the actual definition of "flying dutchment" a little better. One captain looks a bit like a pirate with a fluffy shirt and pirate hat. The other looks like a regular fishboat captain with a Hogan's Heroes hat on. Just in case you were wondering, they are all wearing wooden shoes. ;)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to a rematch tomorrow vs. Aquinas. Hopefully the duthment can shake tonight's poor performance off and come out with guns blazing tomorrow against the saints.  God help the team that meets the dutchment the day they can string an entire game together.

Sac -- Funny, I thought the guy in the orange shorts WAS the mascot!   ;)

As for the now maligned ketchup and mustard dispensers, I want you all to know that they are no *ordinary* dispensers -- oh, no!  They masquerade as innocent, replacable jugs, but are actually a "tap," with a hidden tube leading to who knows where.  So there!  Heck, the weight room is starting to look like Disney with the lighted columns and all, maybe the ketchup and mustard are Disney-esque, and have tubing that runs for miles under the streets of Holland...  ;D

As for the game, well, I'm beginning to think that they play a shoddy first half just to make sure we're paying attention in the second half.   ::)  It was a hard-fought game, but Maddonna's 3-point shooters seemed to mysteriously disappear in the 2nd half.  Anybody else notice that ole yellow shoes played very little in the 2nd half?  Mysterious -- as mysterious as the true source of the Heinz products... ;D
