FDF, I think that was Grace College of Winona Lake, Indiana, not Grace Bible of Wyoming, Michigan.  Grace College used to be pretty strong in the NAIA, but I haven't head much about that program in the past few years.

Goodknight is right. It was Grace, not Grace Bible, that beat Cornerstone in OT last night, 83-73. Grace is a member of the Mid-Central College Conference, a pretty good NAIA-2 circuit that also includes Goshen, Taylor, Marian (IN), Huntingdon, Bethel (IN), and Spring Arbor, among others. Grace is 9-5 this season, and my guess is that this loss isn't the earth-shaking catastrophe for C'stone that a loss to their neighbors at Grace Bible would be.

Thanks guys - I was so shocked to see the score that I never actually thought it could be another Grace.

Am I right that the intention of that mascot vote is to create a costumed character to act as mascot at games? I can only imagine that being cheesy and annoying, particularly given those 4 pictures. Of course maybe I'm assuming failure because I saw what happened when the other Dutch across town at HHS tried to create a mascot costume... what was designed as a red wooden shoe appeared to some as a pair of red lips up on end and reminded the less mature of other worse items. Maybe if they add a mascot and it goofs around with the Dew Crew it could be fun, but hopefully it doesn't end up as some student in a squirrel suit just running around trying to get attention for no reason.

Calvin-Hope game on January 14 will be carried live on CSTV, available on DirecTV and DISH Network!  :-)  Alumni viewing parties will tap into this resource, but CSTV also means fans of Calvin and Hope can watch the game anyplace that gets the channel.  For all the details see

Mascots... welcome to MIAA hoops in the 21st century.

As far as a Hope mascot what is the Devos green hoppy frog thing for?  Seems like all we have to do is put an orange cape on that thing, attach clashing blue t-shirts and orange shorts (or vice-versa), some ugly orange/blue socks/shoes and call it good.  And put the mysterious roman numeral 3 on the back of his jersey while we're at it.

Will a mascot with great prowess in leaping ability be more fitting for a Men's basketball team?  Does it matter what the mascot is to entertain the children sitting in the stands?  Is there room for both 'hoppy the frog' and a 'flying dutchman' squirrel?  What ramifications and other questions do we need to address before making this large and important decision?

I know I personally would hate to see the wrong choice be put into effect and then regret it later. ::)

The Hornets played a tough Chicago team on Saturday.  Apprently, Chicago is still huge across the front line.  The Hornets just could not match their size.  They lost the rebounding battle 34-23 and only shot 35% for the game.  As I listened on the radio, it just seemed that the Hornets got continually beat to rebounds and loose balls.

The Hornets continue to struggle against quality teams.  Even though Chicago is only 4-4, they are still decent.  My feeling is that K is getting better, but still have not found the consistency to play well at all times.  The last week was a tough one, laying an egg at Benedictine, losing a heartbreaker to Elmhurst, and getting walloped in Chi-Town.  Throw in the Aquinas collapse, were glad the break is here.  Hopefully, they can turn it around after the holiday break.

Sounds like Hope is playing well, even without one of their better players...
I hope to make it to the new place in January.  If the Hornets pull off the upset, I can celebrate that along with the destruction of that horrible place called the Civic.

oldman - that green thing is JJ Jumper - the official mascot of the NCAA.  He made a one-time appearance to kickoff the new place.
