New rankings are up and no new suprises really...

I almost feel bad for GA, they dropped from 11 to OUT OF THE TOP 20 for losing once to an unranked team (remind us of anyone?)

I can't say that I agree with Witt staying where they were either... a loss is a loss whether it came from #2 or not. I think they should have at least been bumped to 4.

David Collinge

JJ Jumper...tastes like chicken?  :P  Especially with some good ketchup and mustard...

Civic Minded

Speaking of GOOD ketchup and mustard, I got to see the special hidey place where the Hope condiments come from.  I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you all... 8)

Man, its rough when all there is to talk about is ketchup.  Thanks a lot, Sac!   ;)

I think that in addition to ketchup and mustard, the Hope mascott should incorporate pepper and salt. Once you've got the whole hot-dog condiment gamut, you can change the fight song to

Holland loves the little Dutchmen,
All the Dutchmen of the world.
Red and Yellow, Black and White,
They are precious in their sight.
Holland loves the little Dutchmen of the world!

But then it came to me that, as a matter of truth in advertising, it should perhaps be more like this:

Holland loves the little Dutchmen,
When their foes they can all whip.
White and white and white and white,
They give a ferocious fight
Up to but not including championship!

Civic Minded

As much as I hate to, I have to give you kudos for that one, DK! ::)

You are either very, very clever, or have way too much time on your hands! ;D  Either way, thanks for the laugh!

(And, btw, we hope you'll have to rewrite your last line come March...)

We sure could use a game to talk about around here.

Hold on there Civic, don't get on my case for bringing up ketchup and mustard thats Mr Collinge's doing.  :-*

Calvin fan ribbing Hope about fight songs <chuckle>  "Puff the Magic Dragon" is all I have to say.........maybe you could all sing along with Cal the Knight.   :D

The top  25 has Albion #6, Hope #7  with Calvin still getting some votes and coming in at an effective #41

Check out the Great Lakes Region......LOADED

#2 Wooster, #3 Wittenberg, #6 Albion, #7 Hope, #18 Baldwin-Wallace <shiver> and #24 John Carroll, Ohio Northern #28 and Calvin #41........and I agree Witt should have dropped at least 1 spot.

You could have a steller final four with any of those 4 schools.

......

hope1

i think it is the best region in basketball   hope might play john caroll in a couple of weeks
i love hope  sports all of them are really great to watch

sac

GL is 1 or 2 with the Midwest Region, some years it flip flops.

Right now the Midwest has #1 Ill Wesleyan #8 Lawrence, #13 Augustana, #14 Hanover, #16 Elmhurst and #31 Carroll, #36 Transylvania

Its a pretty stacked region

.....as is the West with #5 Puget Sound,  #12 UW- Stout, #15 Wartburg, #25 UW-Oshkosh, #26 St.  Thomas, #27 Gustavus Adolphus, #37 UW-Whitewater, #39 UW-Stevens Point

So of the 45 schools receiving votes 23 of them come from these 3 regions.

....and in the top 25,

Great Lakes with 6, Midwest with 5, West with 4, thats 60% of the poll.

My apologies, Sac.  I remember someone blaming you, but I admit I did not chase the thread back to see the real culprit! :o

And my apologies to the rest of the board for that horrible, I mean horrible, pun by FDF.  Hope fans must now store their ketchup and mustard at half mast in shame... :-\

On an actual basketball related note, I have it on good authority that the Dutchmen did indeed work on free throws following the last game (well, yeah, it's really lame news, but at least it's not mustard!).   :P

If I were to rank the regions right now, I would have to put GL #1 over the MW.  Of the top 7 teams according to the polls, only Albion and JCU have losses out of the region, with Albion's only loss being to a non-D3 school.  Woo, Hope, and ONU are all still undefeated.  Witt lost to Wooster, and BW lost to Albion.

Look at the MW.  Yes they have the consensus #1, but after that, I don't think they stack up as well.  Their top 3 are solid, but beyond that, I just don't think they are as deep.  Elmhurst and Transy have each lost to a GL team in Hope and Witt respectively.

I just feel that the GL is much deeper than the MW this year.  It doesn't really matter which region is stronger though.  You know that the NCAA is just going to pair up the 2 super regions in the sectional like they just love to do?! ???

And as for Witt not dropping in the polls, they had a pretty substantial lead over #4 Amherst (50 pts.) heading into that game with Wooster.  They did take a hit, as they are only 6 points ahead of Amherst this week.  I just think it was a combination of the fact that Witt was in a position to beat the #2 team in the country on the road, coupled with the large lead they had over Amherst that kept Witt at #3.
