My brother in law spoke with DVS after the game.  Derek said that they had been practicing that play and were hoping for a chance on Saturday to work it out.

Nice to hear that Glenn has them working hard in practice...

1. Isn't there a 48 hour rule about this dunk?

2.  The Hope posters like to point out other teams unsportmanlike fans, players, and coaches.  Isn't a "showboatin dunk"  to go up 35 with 13 minutes to go unsportsmanlike?  DVS had an easy boring layup but instead took the opportunity to rub it in Alma's face.

It honestly didn't occur to me until just now, but since the dunk setup was intentional, and apparently fairly obviously so.... I'm mostly just starting to wonder if a dunk in a completely and utter blowout game like this wasn't just a little bit of bad sportsmanship... :-\

edit: almcguirejr beat me to it by 40 seconds. But at least you know you're not alone in the thought. :)

I say let the boys have some fun.  The dunk was more for the Hope fans and less an "in your face" to Alma in my opinion.

I'm sure it was fun for the Lincoln players to score over 200 points too... and for fans to yell obscenities... and etc. Obviously this is a relatively minor sportsmanship infraction. But regardless of the intentions, I don't think it would be hard to understand how the Alma program and fans could feel about something like that... no?

On a different note...did anyone catch Ernie Cryer officiating the Wisconsin-OSU game a few weeks ago?

The officials in that game were Jim Burr, Tim Higgins, Tom O'Neill. I think Ernie retired.

These are the points per 40 minutes statistics for the MIAA.  I apologize for the annoying formatting. (If that can be fixed, please let me know)

The Cramer dunk against Alma was not only the best dunk at the DeVos, it was the best dunk in the history of the MIAA, Division III, and throughout all of basketball, worldwide!  That's just a fact, as I have come to learn from these posts that everything Hope does is the best.  So there!

Which part? I'd say that first line is pretty spot on for many of Hope and Calvin alike.

Perhaps Coach Soderbeg was on to something......

I guess I'll jump in here.  I'm all for a great game by any team and any player, and for great plays for that matter.  I know how exciting a good dunk can be in person, especially if it's your team.  I watched the dunk on YouTube because I like to revel in a great play (we have lots of basketball highlight dvds here--high school, college, nba).  I've seen similar dunks in high school, so it's not that incredible of a dunk to me, but again I wasn't there and I'm not a Hope fan.  Even so, if someone on Calvin had had an incredible dunk, I'd be embarrassed to have us talking about it for days.  The last number of days have been so monotonous and, er, boring for the non-Hope poster.  Maybe no one else has had much to say or has just been too floored by "the dunk." I'm sure I don't have the years of perspective to see how the posts ebb and flow when a team is riding high, so please forgive my ignorance.  Just my two-cents.   Supposedly we can all speak our mind here and we do.  Some people seem to get slammed if they don't ride the prevailing flow of the posts.

Moving on, has every MIAA team played every team at least once by now?

The flow certainly goes through Hope and Calvin, tilting more to the one that is having the better season.  Hopesters will always post, Knights will usually post, and other teams will come and go.  Since the MIAA is consistently ruled by Calvin or Hope (mostly), most of the posting will go that way.

Wednesdays games will complete the conference rotation for the first time.

As for the dunk, I saw it on YouTube.  No, the online video probably does not do it justice.  Was it a good or even a great dunk? Absolutely.  Was it poor sportsmanship, probably not.  The dunk was made in the context of the game.  Sure Alma was down big but let the kids and the fans have some fun.  Was the best D-III dunk ever? No. To quote Kip from Napoleon Dynamite "Like anyone could ever know that."  Like other posters have mentioned people will be most inclined to like the dunks that were made by their team that they personally saw live the best.  A 'best dunk ever' debate is absolutely insane.
