In 1664, the seal of the colony was adopted. It pictured an anchor and the word HOPE.

As a convert.......I guess this sailed right over your head. ;) :D

No - but I am more than a little disappointed we weren't the first to come up with it. :'(

So today the MIAA posting board broke through the 200,000 read barier.  The CCIW is in the 330,000, followed by the MIAA.  There are a couple of other boards around 145,000.  So I guess whatever it is we talk about, it's at least interesting.

For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf. - Hebrews 6

Just a thought.  ;)

I heard that we have the most interesting board in the entire D3sports.com forum.

More than just a thought............

Hope's name and seal both originate from an observation the Rev. Van Raalte made regarding the Pioneer School: "This is my anchor of hope for this people in the future." The symbolism follows the Epistle to the Hebrews 6:19, "We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul... " Hope's motto, taken from Psalm 42:5, echoes the sentiment: "Spera in Deo" ("Hope in God").

Since this Wednesday is halfway thorugh the MIAA schedule,

Who's the top freshman in the MIAA?

Still trying to figure out why I have negative karma, I wish people enjoyed my posts. Well at the near halfway point of the MIAA season I would have to say I am impressed by Hope so far. I was starting to question their toughness, and the ability of the "Big 3" to step it up during those early season non conference games. So far all has been well, and the role players have been really stepping it up which was another of my worries. It seems as though most of the guys are really enjoying this team, and although they seem laid back, I wouldn't question anyone's focus. They want that title and you have been able to tell by their play on the court over the past couple of weeks.
I really would love to see the Dutchmen run the table, but they have some tough humps to get over first. Calvin will show up to play at Devos, but despite their best efforts Hope will pull that game out as well. Not sure how the Tri State game will go, I could see them keeping it close for a while, but I am feeling another solid Hope win. The other upcoming game which scares me slightly is the trip to Albion, although they looked really off their game when they came to Devos, Hope teams tend to struggle at Albion, so I have a feeling that will be a hard fought close game as well.
Hopefully the 2nd half of the MIAA season will be full of excitement, can't wait for the Knights to visit Devos, and to see if 3state can keep playing well. It would be nice to see them finish with a solid record, they really are doing a good job of turning that program around.
Two side notes, was anybody as surprised as I was to see Kirk Cousins was offered a scholarship to play QB at MSU, I mean I know they're dissapointed about losing Nichol but is Cousins really a Big Ten talent. Would love to hear more on that from somebody who knows more about him. On a more important note, I can't wait to get home after the Hope V. 3state game to watch my Wolverines pick up a huge win at the Kohl Center. Go Blue!

Ask someone from Zeeland West ..... 55 - 21
To me, it seems like Cousins and Josh Rooks  (Northwestern) would have had wonderful careers at a place lke Hope instead of sitting the bench or getting their heads kicked in while in the Big Ten.

For Calvin, Veltema and Mantil have to be thrown into the discussion.

I suppose we need to add Steven Kratz to the list as well. He gives hope a lot of good minutes but I do think he needs to go to the hoop stronger. He hasnt been scoring much lately but he has a very soft shot when he puts it up. I think he will be a very strong player for hope in years to come.

On a different note...did anyone catch Ernie Cryer officiating the Wisconsin-OSU game a few weeks ago?

The officials in that game were Jim Burr, Tim Higgins, Tom O'Neill. I think Ernie retired.

Tom O'Neill, on the other hand, is a veteran CCIW ref. ;)

They probably would have left Hope $60,000 in debt upon graduating, unless they were awarded the Huizenga scholarship.  ;)

OK.  I may have the wrong game and I can't find proof on the web anywhere, however, an officiating friend (MIAA) just talked with Ernie last Friday night and he is indeed officiating Div. 1 games this year.
