FDF:  Amen.   :D

KK; No one mentioned you specifically, but several posters have commented on the lack of "pro" Albion activity at this site this year.  Everyone has speculated there must be some correlation between team performance, and posting activity.  :) :)

So tonight at the DeVos they are giving away a remake of the first Hope BBall booster button - which I learned this morning was designed by none other than our own gohope!!

We should all feel humbled to be in gohope's presence   ;)
Would these be the same ones they gave away at the satellite parties for "The Rivalry" game? If so, I have one. ;D
Wait, dunks are only worth two points?!?!!!? Why does anyone do them? - diehardfan
What are Parkers now supposed to chant after every NP vs WC game, "Let's go enjoy tobacco products off-campus? - Gregory Sager
We all read it, but we don't take anything you say seriously - Luke Kasten

Proof once again that theology and politics don't belong here.  The disagreement over Cramers dunk and the charge on Velthouse last year weren't this intense   ;D

Maybe Pat can just ax the last 2 or 3 pages.

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

It all Greg's fault. ;)

When I say it doesn't sound like Augustine I mean that in two senses: it is stylistically not the way he writes, and certainly not the way he writes in City of God; and, secondly, I don't take it to be a formulation entirely congruent with his theology in general, or with the issues addressed in City of God in particular. Augustine doesn't express himself in such aphoristic fashions.

You've got to go to the original text. It's reads much weightier in Latin. :) ;)

Don't forget that the Hope women are playing at home tonight at 6pm before the men's game.  I think they could use lots of vocal encouragement.

Speaking of Latin, we just finished a Latin lesson here (Tim is still home-schooled), but we haven't gotten to Augustine yet.  Mea Culpa.

It's snowing a lot here in Chelsea.  Do the games ever get snowed out?  Anybody have a "my worst traveling to an MIAA game" story?  (Besides Old Knight and Good Night riding together?)  By the way, Old Night (or is it Good Night--I've got you mixed up again!), I met one of your wives tonight (that didn't sound right either) and was so surprised because I didn't know either one of you was married.  I assumed you always travelled to games together (I guess from seeing you in Ohio).  So congratulations and best wishes!

When are you going to start reading City of God? We need to know the exact page and paragraph of the disputed quotation. Let's start cracking the whip with those kids. :)

If you met one of my wives you're in Chicago right now. :o Don't worry, she says she's coming home. :) And no, I'm not Mormon. ;)

Hmmm...my husband is in Chicago, too, and he's says he's coming home!  (Not til after the game, so you won't have to keep him in line at the game tonight).

I love it!  I must have picked up one of those ancient scales, too.   :)

Fair enough. I'll reserve such debates for personal messages. It is a basketball forum, after all.

Was the Veldhouse foul a charge or a flagrant elbow? I can't remember which. Gohope: looking forward to seeing the button. See if you can get them to give away free t-shirts also.

By the way, one thing that was not commented on about Saturday's Hope game: is it just me, or was that the best performance yet of the national anthem at DeVos? I got chills listening to her sing that. (Memo to other posters: I am not implying that even the Star-spangled Banner is better at Hope - this happened to be what I thought was an exceptionally good rendition).

Whoops, it might be better to go back to our theological debate instead of reopening that can of worms. ::)

One of my favorite quotes by Augustine is "Love God and do as you please."  To quote him fairly, "Who can be good, if not made so by loving?" and "If you but love God you may do as you incline."  Phillip Yancey adds, "He was entirely serious.  A person who truly loves God will be inclined to please God which is why Jesus and Paul both summed up the entire law in the simple command, "Love God."

Back to the Essentials quote.  It's a beautiful "doctrine."  The big challenge for me is not to make everything an "Essential!"

I think that was a Luther comment as well.  That comment is such a great reminder about the true and complete assurance we have in Christ.

No, I think this one is Augustine (without opining on the other). It's one of my favorite quotes of Augustine. I don't recall exactly where I read it -- the Confessions?

Another one I like, which may be Augustine, though I don't recall exactly where I read it: "The love with which we love each other is the Holy Spirit"...

Then there's this one: "Let's play ball!"

diehardfan

My favorite Augustine quote is "By loving us, God makes us lovable." I don't consider myself terribly lovable a whole lot of the time, :-[ so it's a pretty important reminder for me!

And I'm sure that one is Augustine.  :P

I think we are going to alienate the people who come from non-christian schools pretty darn soon if, uh, we haven't already...  :D :-X
