Picket Fence,

In my opinion, Passage will be at K as long as he wants. You can only coach the players who attend your school, and Coach Passage gets the best results from the players he has available.

Glad I did not witness the contest (for lack of a better term) in Holland last night. Not a great way to start the league, but the beauty of the MIAA is there is always someone else waiting for you. Bring on the Bulldogs.

??? Hey I am looking for two possible three tickets to the Hope/Calvin game next weekend. I know this is a long shot, but if anyone knows anyone with two extra tickets it would be much appreciated. (616) 901-4564.

I'm perfectly happy where Hope is ranked.....behind Albion.  I'm down right ecstatic the MIAA will most likely have 2 in the top 5 next week.  Keep in mind Hope started low in the poll they've had a better rise in the polls than most.

With apologies to Pat and his pollsters, the D3hoops poll is really just an entertainment poll.  I enjoy following its intricasies because to be honest its downright near impossible to have a real solid opinion in D3 with so many teams and so few cross-regional matchups.   But these guys make a great effort.   A little recognition is nice, and it can give the fan a good headsup on big matchups coming up ......such as a top 5 tumble between Hope and Albion.

The NCAA Regional poll is the one that counts and really all that counts there is IN-REGION record, so if there was a poll today Albion and Hope would be #1 and #2 in any order with Witt, Woo and BW closely behind.

Keep in the mind the hosting of NCAA tournament games has changed.  There will be one sight for 1st and 2nd round games among a bracket of 4, in other words only 16 schools will actually host a bracket.   For example last years bracket of Wheaton, Aurora and Calvin all would have been at Wheaton.

It would be a monumental achievement to get to host anything anymore.

I guess the plus is some lucky school will get to some great matchups on their court,  especially in this Region.

Don't even get me started on how poor of an idea this is.  Its an amazing experience for the host college's student's, faculty and alumni to host a game in their own gym.  The NCAA is basically taking this experience away from 75% of the tournament field.   Money ruins everything.

Thanks for the insight Sac, you make excellent points. It is pretty entertaining to follow the d3hoops poll, just impossible to understand - that's where my frusteration lies, that's all.

Anyway, random questions from the new guy.

1. where is the modify button on my old posts?
2. what is "karma" all about?

I searched the "help" section but didn't find anything...

thanks in advance :)

#1  I belive you have to have more posts to modify, I could be wrong, I know I can.  Maybe Pat C can answer that.

#2 Karma is the essense of life  ;D 8)

......if you like a post applaud, if you don't smite.  The more karma........the more popular you are.  But not necessarily smarter.

Let me expound on Hope position in the ranking to start the season.

Questions marks.......Hope had lots of question marks, like how would Carlson and Immink return from knee injuries?  What about Phillips, would the finger injury hamper him? and Cramer would the back injuries flare up again?  Then throw in the 4 transfers who we all heard great things about, but would they fit in, adjust to new teammates.  Were they really as good as everyone said?

So far the answer to all these questions has been positive for Hope.  Hence the quick rise in the poll.

These guys are still learning to play together, the coaches are still testing the lineup etc.  Hope has 5 new players among its top 11 from last season and .....thats a lot at any level, 6 if you count Immink.   Hope can be much better and I think that has to be a wonderful thing for Hope fans to think about.

Now if we could just get the fans to make a little more noise in DeVos to support this exciting and growing team ;).

So true  :D This is why I'm always giving the HOFers karma, to make up for the fact that mine is completely inflated.  :-[

In case anyone is wondering, in my head, the top pick in the nation right now is Hope. Assuming that they do well this conference season, and I can't imagine they won't, even a conference tourney loss to Albion makes them an outstanding candidate for an expanded Pool C slot. (Albion currently looks like a great candidate too).  I hope (uhm, is there any other word I can write instead? :D)  they prove me right!

Pat explained that 'newbies' were sometimes deceptively modifying posts, so doesn't allow the option at first (I don't know what the # of posts is to qualify).

Likewise, the option of 'applauding' or 'smiting' (i.e., giving or taking away karma) is not permitted until (apparently) 200 posts.

Hope (and Lawrence) have actually risen faster in the poll this year than any teams I can recall in the past.  If Hope beats Olivet, I predict they will get 2-3 first place votes and be solidly in the top 5.  If they then beat Albion and Calvin, I predict they will be ranked #1 in two weeks.  Just be patient and keep winning!

flash 96 - I really like that. It puts the rankings into a better perspective, for me anyway.

And Sac, about the noise in DeVos... You have to take into account the fact that minus the dew crew, the average age of the rest of the gym is probably 55+ ;) That being said, give them props for being at every game... for the last 30 years  :D

MIdoubleA

oops, I meant to give props to Titan Q. I got things mixed up and since I can't use the edit feature yet, I had to create a new post   :'(

Maybe Hope will have a tough time if some high schoolers come and play in their place!  Olivet high school could probably beat Olivet College!

The tough part about Hope at Olivet is to forget the horrible play that Hope had last year at Olivet
