I was just catching up on the men's side of the board and noted that Hope's allotment of tickets for the weekend is very limited.

May I suggest that Hope fans that can not get tickets to Aurora consider making the journey down to Greencastle to watch the Dutch play.

The venue is larger and the likely Saturday opponent will be the host - DePauw.  Those of you that attended last years game will remember that the local crowd is loud and hostile.

I am sure the women will appreciate your support.

I think this is a great suggestion by WWRHH. Sadly I am not able to attend either regional this weekend but I think it would be great for anyone who doesn't get tickets to Aurora to consider heading to Greencastle. I know there were some harsh stories about fan behavior at the game there last year and I am sure it would be great for Hope to arrive with a large and respectful fan contingent this weekend. Plus, I really am curious to see how DePauw handles the situation this weekend so I would appreciate any reports from the game.

As a Calvin fan it is worth the risk to drive to Aurora, and plan to get there about 15 minutes before the first game is over.  Ask one of the departing (losing team's fan)  for thier ticket stub.   Has worked for me in the past when we played  the second second game. ;)  I don't recommend spending the night in your car so get a room first.

Oooooo, well if that isn't totally Dutch, I don't know what is.  :D   Hmmmm, perhaps we could reach a level of cooperation never seen between the two schools..........seriously, any Calvin fan willing to give me his/her ticket so I can see Hope at 6, I'll PROMISE to return the stub for the second game. ;D

pointlem

Indeed, it would seem so simple a matter for Aurora to accommodate fans and double revenue with a double session that their rumored unwillingness to be hassled by such leads one to wonder if one motivation is to minimize Calvin fans at their game.  Or am I underestimating their hospitality?  (We've been advised to assume good will.)

Regardless, this does incline me, if I get a Hope ticket, to . . . this is so hard to write . . . root for Calvin.  (Besides, I'd like the MIAA to shore up its image, and if Hope survives I'd rather there wasn't a better team than Calvin in this bracket.)

Go Dutchmen! Go Knights!  (For the first night only.)

[Sadly Calvin has a group of fans that are either students or adults that decide to only go to Hope/Calvin games and sometimes jump on their bandwagon come tourney time.   I think we Calvin fans in this board should think of a non-offensive made-up name for those type of people.  Any ideas?

Stop already FDF:  I am out of karma.
Sac:  I would rather have you think me "dutch" than miss the opportunity to see my team play. ;D  If one can't get a ticket the normal way should one be too proud to be creative?
Your statement regarding whether or not you would show up at the appointed time after the first game points to your ethics, not mine. ;D

I have tickets but can't share them with others for the early game.  Not in the Master Plan.

I don't think anyone is going to condone skipping class. Especially if it's an English class. ;D

I believe the decision to skip class is a wise move on your part. You don't want to risk not getting tickets! Of course in my day I rarely skipped class, especially if it involved Heidegger ;)

Has anyone checked out the projected RPI rankings if RPI was used this year instead of QoWI. According to the RPI Hope comes in at 65 and certainly would have been left home this year thanks to the fact that our opponents' win percentage was a weak 47.4% Lets Hope the MIAA has a much more respectable non-conference year next year or the MIAA will certainly be limited to one NCAA berth.

Calvin came in at 89 on the list.

Maybe GVW could leave a few quality area recruits for the rest of the MIAA teams so they can boost their win percentage ::) ::)

I went to Hope's last trip to Chicago U, 2003 I think........I know Overbeek was on that team.  I loved their old gymnasium, the first thing you saw when you walked in the door was a display case of the Heisman Trophy.  What made Chicago unique to me from other D3 locals was of course the multiple Big Ten Championship banners hanging from the rafters. 8)

Chicago has since built a new gymnasium.

Here's a break from the ticket fiasco.

In case you are interested in the history of U of Chicago, they are indeed the home of the first Heisman Trophy winner,  Jay Berwanger, who got the award in 1935 when of U of C was a Big Ten member.  Technically, his award was the "Downtown Athletic Award", which the New York club changed to the John W. Heisman Memorial Trophy the following year.

Berwanger also was the first person drafted in first NFL draft, held in 1935.  He was drafted by Philadelphia, but his rights were traded to the Chicago Bears.  But Papa Halas would not meet Berwanger's salary demands of $25,000 for two years, so Berwanger never played pro ball.  He did have a very successful career in business, later forming his own company.

Berwanger selected of U of C because "I wanted to attend a school that would give me a first rate education in business, WITHOUT SPECIAL TREATMENT, so I would be better prepared when opportunities were certain to return."  Haven't heard that comment recently from a Heisman winner!

He is also the answer to the  trivia question, "Who is the only Heisman Trophy winner to have ever been tackled by a future President of the United States?"  Many years later Gerald Ford recalled that he still carried a scar from the time that he tackled the 6 foot, 195 pound halfback in 1934.

A number of years ago I corresponded with Berwanger through the mail.  He was known as a very personable individual.  But what else would you expect from a player whose nickname, among others, was the "Flying Dutchman" (even though he was German).
