Bottom line is none of us really know the why or why not's........I think we can all agree we'd prefer a split session and thats its a rather simple thing to do.   Aurora may have perfectly reasonable reasons.  We don't know.   I think we're only disappointed because its a very simple drive for both schools, who also have a good number of alumni in Chicago who would probably make an attempt to see an NCAA game in their backyard.  This really is a unique adventure for these schools.........I don't think we've ever been in the same gym in the NCAA's that wasn't in GR or Holland.

If there's one thing I've learned about Calvin and Hope fans its that both schools absolutely love following their teams in the NCAA playoffs......but also that very few D3 schools can even come close to the fan followings of these two schools on the road.  Its unique and its easy for us in West Michigan to forget that.  Would we sell out a split session......maybe, maybe not, its hasn't been tried in the NCAA's.

Before we risk the sudden and unfortunate passing of another of our equine friends :P.........maybe we should move on and discuss the games Friday.  :)

Yeah, anyone at that game two years ago can honestly describe it as a Calvin home game.  It definetily helped Calvin tremendously.

Does anyone remember the former NBA-er that came from AU?  I think I remember a #8 Bulls jersey in one of their showcases.

ONE TICKET AVAILABLE TO FRIDAY'S GAME!  CALL ME!

Seriously, I have one extra ticket to the game on Friday night, and am willing to sell it for the following price.

Hope Fans:  $5 cash
Calvin Fans:  $5 plus a $100 check payable to the Hope College Alumni Fund

Knights, I am just kidding.  You can have it for $5 too.

Here's the deal:  the first person to call me in Grand Rapids (616-534-3033) gets the ticket.  It will be available on Friday morning in Holland, or I can give it to you at the game in Chicago when the gates open.  We can coordinate via cell phone in Chicago.  Don't call after midnight tonight.

Is this just for the Hope/Chicago game or will it also get me into the main event? ;D

Got so excited about the ticket, I didn't post it correctly.

This ticket gets you into both Friday games, since as of right now they are not clearing out the gym between games.  As far as Saturday, I believe those tickets go on sale after both the first game and the second game on Friday.  I am only assuming this, since nothing has been mentioned yet about the Sat. game, and they obviously do not know who is playing this game.

I missed your last question.  The Calvin/Chicago game will be played on Sat. morning in the Chicago gym.  No tickets needed.

Great post, you're too generous.

But it brings up a question.  Would you sell/give your reserved seats to a fan from the opposing team for a game played on your home court?

My friend has U of M floor seats and was pissed that a MSU fan was sitting two seats down on the right and another four seats down on the left.

Thought I'd drop by and give you MIAA guys a scouting report on Chicago.

The Maroons are in the dance for the first time since 2001, when they reached the Elite Eight with Derek Reich.  Chicago had been a middle-of-the-pack UAA team for three years prior to this season.  UC's success in 2006-07 is even more surprising considering their starting center, Tim Reynolds, has been out since December with a broken foot or ankle.

The Maroons are undersized and have overachieved, but they are still a dangerous team.  To earn the W, Hope will have to come into Illinois and take this game from the Maroons -- Chicago will not beat themselves.  The Maroons consistently put points on the board (8 straight games with 74+) and take care of the basketball (only 10.5 TO per game).  They play hard, they play smart, and they play together.  This is an experienced team that is well-coached by Mike McGrath.

Sounds just like Hope!  Should be a great matchup!!!

Too bad I have to be at a HS game that night......hopefully the Dutchmen can pull it out so we can make a trip to Chicago on Saturday!!  (I really miss that traffic ;)

You needn't go anywhere near Chicago and its woeful traffic problems if you're going to Aurora. Take I-94 through Indiana and into Illinois, turn onto the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), take it to the Reagan Tollway (I-88), and voila! You're in Aurora without ever crossing the city limits of Chicago.

Good news for those of you Michiganders who are still out in the cold regarding tickets for Friday night:

I went down to the South Side on Wednesday morning to buy my ticket for Friday. I got to the Ratner Center at 11:20; the U of C had announced online that the ticket window would open at 11 am. There was no line. In fact, I was the only person there who bought a ticket. There were about four or five staff there, all of whom seemed a bit puzzled when I walked in the front door of the building and pulled the money out of my wallet. It was as if it took them all a moment to realize that someone was there to buy a ticket for Friday's Maroons basketball game out in Aurora.

The long and short of it is that I suspect Chicago will be giving back a lot of ducats to be sold at the door on Friday, just as will Aurora.

I got my ticket so I will be at Aurora.  Yes with MIAA loyalty I will cheer for both Hope and Calvin Friday night.  We can both use home court advantage.

I work for a trucking company, and have been discussing routes to Aurora that avoid Chicago.  One alternative that came up is staying on I-80 to Joliet and taking US-30 up to Aurora, thus avoiding the I-294/O'Hare traffic.  Any merit to this?

In theory it sounds good, but I'm just not that familiar with the Lincoln Highway (US-30), as it's way out of my bailiwick. What I do know about the western suburbs is that the major surface roads are even more prone to bottlenecks than are most equivalent streets in the city.
