MRY:  Hard to tell, but my sense is much like yours that there are few "loyalty" votes in the mix.  Would I like to see Calvin win two, darn right, but do I expect that to happen.  Like the economist told the senators yesterday it is not a very high probability.  Could the MIAA get completely shut out. Yes.   Could either Hope or Calvin win one.  Yes.  Could it go 2-2
probably.  Could it go 3-1 for the MIAA?   Greatly reduce probability.  Could the MIAA win all 4.  Well if they do I wouldn't even dare to lurk on the CCIW board for the rest of the month. :)gdK:  Of all the things I've ever lost I miss my mind the most.  I sure thought that was longer ago than just last year.  ;)  Perhpas I've slipped into one of those alternate universes we keep hearing about.

Oh, we're (mostly) a pretty friendly bunch - you're welcome anytime!

Since the MIAA is also a (mostly) friendly bunch, I'll confess to being one of the 3 voters for 0-4.  Steve Djurickovic (often called "Little Bosko" on CCIW Chat ;)) is POSSIBLY even better than Raymond - while 1-3 may be more likely, don't take Carthage for granted.  If their guards get hot, ....

Having now lived in Michigan nearly twice as long as Illinois, I'm a big rooter for the MIAA, but I'm still ultimately a CCIW guy! :D

By the way

while watching the Hope women's game last night it occurred to me that maybe the new men's 3pt line will impact the women more.  Hope took 18 3 point shots and I'd wager half of those were from behind the men's line.  The only one Carrie Snikkers made was at least a foot behind that line.

If I remember right there were 3 instances of traveling, where the ladies were trying to set their feet between the lines.

I've commented on CCIW Chat that as the scorekeeper for the NPU women's team I've noticed the exact same things taking place from all the teams in the women's games that I've seen thus far. NPU now seems to be avoiding this problem by not attempting any treys whatsoever. ;)

the top 2 pages that pop up when i hit the "d" key in my web browser collided yesterday.

deadspin.com posted this yesterday.  figured I would share it w/ my other favorite d website!  Its a pretty crazy sequence of events from a SUNY vs SUNY game this weekend

Once Pat finds out that you're highlighting stuff from another website that was featured on the front page of this website, you're in for a tongue-lashing. :D

Well, it was already taken care of for me, so no big deal. :)

Plus, GS, haven't you noticed the kinder-gentler publisher the past couple years?

halftime at Wheaton

Carthage 49 Hope 36

Carthage is shooting lights out at 61% to Hope's 39%, Carthage haven't been below that number the whole game,  Djurickovic has 22 , including about 11 in a row to separate a 1 point game.  Hope's just struggling to find consistent offense, strange to say in a 36 point half.  Carthage didn't get a FG the final 3 minutes of the half, a modest 8-4 Hope run.  Is been all Carthage, minus a brief 1 point ball game at 18-17

Daniel Cox started in place of Ty Tanis.

Reimink 10, Osburn 8, Tanis 5, Cox 5 to lead Hope.  Reimink with 3 fouls.

.....also add, Carthage is smoking Hope from behind the arc  7-13 to Hope's 2-9.

HopeConvert

Mr Y may have called this one: Djurickovic is doing a number on the Dutchmen. 31 points and 9 assists.

I haven't done the research on this one, but my sense is that a team that gets badly blown out at some point in the season will never be able to advance too far in the postseason (bad news for MSU fans). I thought Carthage would be a tough game, but I didn't expect it to be this one-sided.

3-pointers and free throws appear to be the difference.

HC;  This has been a bit painful to listen to, and watch the stats.  I just could not believe the shooting % that C. was putting up, and maintaining.  I think the key was getting Reimink in foul trouble early.  Without him in there Hope just isn't the same team.  I still think the new guys have loads of talent, but lack the experience to jsut go out there and take over the game.

Final from Wheaton

Carthage 89  Hope 68

Carthage burried Hope early in the 2nd half, led by as many 27 I think.  We flirted with record loss territory for awhile, but 21 is still up there in terms of big losses under GVW.

Carthage cooled off a little in the second half, but not much.  Djurickovic led the way with 33, Fendley 22 and was 7-12 from trey.

Reimink had 16, Osburn 8, Venema 6, Tanis 5, Cox 5, Carter 5.........you might notice the leading scorers didn't change much from the first half.  Venema and Carter's points all came in the closing minutes.

Hope just didn't sound very competitive tonight.  From far away, listening and "watching", without having seen the Dutchmen, and judging the change in starting 5, the subbing paterns and minutes distribution.........I'd say the Hope staff really isn't sure what they have right now.

Calvin fans, I believe that Wheaton will be posting the livestats for your game at:

http://livestats.internetconsult.com/wheaton/mbball/

Olivet came from behind to beat Madonna, 70-66 ... Mike McClary had 20 points, 17 rebounds, 5 blocks and 0 fouls in 37 minutes ... Brandon McClary had 19 points ... Joel Kerns had 11 points ... For the game, Olivet was called for only 11 fouls ... stats don't show the referees names.

Sac;  I agree that this just did not sound anything like a normal Hope team.  Carthage started hot, and never really cooled off like happens in most games.  I am going to be interested in what the eye witness accounts have to say about the game.

The one I got was "no words"

HopeConvert

I'm worried about the defense with this team. The only time they gave up 89 last year was in the semifinals against WashU (and foul trouble was big in that one also).

I doubt the texter in question will have "no words" later. At that point, I'm curious as to how the team looks in terms of simply knowing what they are supposed to be doing. My sense is that there is talent on this team and they simply shouldn't be losing by 20+.

Mr. Ypsi

Yeah, I warned you about Djurickovic (and Fendley) - but I NEVER imagined a 21-point beat down.

"Little Bosko" is pretty good. ;)  Silver lining for you: IWU has to face him (at least) twice! :(

realist

Mr Y:  It will be interesting to see how Carthage does against teams that have seen "little D" a time or two before.

I suspect that Carthage will finish no higher than 6th in the CCIW.  IWU has a guy (Sean Dwyer) who can't crack the starting line-up at guard, but held Kent Raymond to his lowest totals last year.  Don't recall how he did against Steve, but suspect he will be used heavily.  Can't speak for other teams, but either they let Steve get his and shut down the rest of the team, or found a way - Carthage is NOT likely to make the top half of the league

He's deadly against schools that haven't seen him, but it is still a team game..

Calvin's up by 3 at the half at King Arena.
Rodts with 11 and Veltema with 10 off the bench.
Watching the video feed and listening to the Wheaton announcers.  They're whining a good bit about the physicality of Calvin's defense.  I've been whining for years about it, too.  As in, where it is?
Evidently, it's in the western suburbs tonight.
