Aquinas is proving itself to be a VERY good basketball team

Kind of, when John Lierman is in the lineup they are very good.  They're 4-1 when he plays significant minutes.  That lone loss was to #9 NAIA I ranked Georgetown.  Without him, AQ is 0-5.

........and in that area, anyone know when James Telman is eligible to suit up for Aquinas.  I assume their exams are this week, which could mean Aquinas gets a whole lot better starting next Wednesday.

I read the GR Press at lunch and it quoted Lazic as saying that Telman will be back for the Saints' game against UDM. I believe that is next week Wednesday and would also make him available for the following game vs. Hope.

According to the AQ site, and the season preview Telman had to sit out the first 11 games.
""We're going to be getting James back after he sits out the first 11 games of the season," Hammer said, which enables Telman to help the Saints during the league portion of the schedule"......
Bingo :)  Guess that means Hope gets to find out if the lay off hurt his game.  Hope is the 12th game.

Lazic's quote is "...we get Telman back after the Detroit game..."  That means Telman's first
game will be on the 20th vs Hope.

You're right about the quote al; good catch. :-[  Uh-oh, Don't look now, OldKnight's short-term memory is beginning to fail. As Douglas MacArthur once said, "old posters never die; they just fade away. And like the old poster of that ballad, I now close my posting career and just fade away."   ;)

Someone needs to tell John Mantel that he is an excellent player and that he can maximize his effectiveness by going down low and demanding the ball.  John cannot be effective if he continues to play stretches of games floating around the the 3 point line.  We all know he has a good touch for a big man, but save the long jump shots for Caleb and Veltema.

But, if he goes down low some big guy might bump into him and he could get an owie.  I'm afraid John doesn't like to get his hands dirty.

According to the Holland Sentinel, Grace Bible is 8-4.  The article below includes a preview of each team playing in the tournament.

I must say that I smile every time I think of playing Grace Bible - for a very silly reason.  When our son was much younger, we were at a Hope vs Grace Bible game.  The PA announcer introduced the Grace Bible Tigers, and our son said, "they're the Bible tigers?"  like it was some special animal from the garden of Eden.   ;D

I had a similar experience when I was a kid. I remember reading a book that mentioned Japanese pro baseball teams. One of the team names that stuck in my head was the Nippon Ham Fighters. Since I didn't realize that each Japanese pro baseball team is named after the corporation that owns it, I didn't know that the team was named after a meatpacking concern called the Nippon Ham Company, and that the team nickname was the Fighters. I thought that they were the Ham Fighters. I figured that perhaps they were named for some sort of ancient samurai ritual in which warriors proved their devotion to the code of bushido by whacking each other over the head with pork products.

Well I just can't stand the Bible Tigers program.  How dare they come to Holland showboating their 8-4 record.  I mean thats more than the other 3 teams combined.  Disgusting. ::)

Never thought we would see the day when playing Grace Bible was done to improve one's strenght of schedule. :o

Hell (MI) freezes over every winter, I assure you! ;)

My favorite photo (which I can't find to post here) is the street sign at the intersection of Spring and Summer streets (Wausau, WI, I believe), barely visible above the 5+ feet of snow!

Perhaps I should have used :P in cheek instead of the shocked one.  I was trying to avoid mentioning that one of Grace's 8 wins this year came against that "team that shall not be mentioned". :)
