On a lighter note, did anyone read the caption under the front page picture?

"The University of Chicago has lost six games by a basket or less."

What's less than a basket? A turnover? Rebound?

I know exactly what they are trying to say, I just thought it was funny :D

Schlaff was a pleasure to watch, and an even more impressive individual.  He put up one heck of a fight, God bless him.

Hope's roster is one fewer, so the rumor mill says.  Just got back from 8th Street Grille and some X-mas shopping (soup bar this time of the year sure hits the spot) and WOTS was one is going to be lost due to the "peril's of the classroom". It's amazing how fast word gets around pertaining to Hope Athletics.  A name was mentioned, but I'm positive (opinion) he was incorrect in his storytelling.  The young man he mentioned carried a 4.0 GPA in HS so it is doubtful, the person I believe to have fallen, is/was not known to be the studious type.  Some may get a small laugh out of the story, if it is true.

Hope to hear great and accurate feedback about the game against AQ.  Family commitments will not allow me to attend.  Go Hope!

Wentworth Tech 62 Adrian 61

Tough loss in Vegas, Adrian only trailed by 7 no more than a couple of times in this one.    Otherwise a tough close game throughout.  Adrian had 4 cracks at the lead but couldn't cash in.

Not sure I've seen too many boxscores where both teams only scored 4 total points in the final 4 minutes and none in the final 3 and half.

Tough news about Snikkers.  I can think of only 2 or 3 other times this has happened in the years I've followed Hope.  At least in mid-season.

Not sure what Hope will do roster wise, they're down to 13 players which I'm sure is well below what they'd like for practice.  The JV has 13 as well.   They could pull a Jv'er or two up, but they'd lose the benefit of growth that a year on JV can provide.  I can't recall Hope ever doing what I've seen other MIAA's do, which is have a player pull double-duty.  Play in the JV game and then sit the bench of the varsity game.

Adam Dickerson 6-5 So., might get a look.  Otherwise there's 6-7 Dan Kraakevik or 6-5 Kyle Hoffmaster two Freshmen I know nothing about.  Beyond them your down to wing players like 6-4 Ryan Ross and 6-4 Logan Neil.  I'm sure they'd prefer Ross and Neil stay with the JV to help them develop.

Saw Hoffmaster play a couple of times when he was at Hopkins. Had some pretty good post play against, well, smaller high-school teams. I hear this kid from Sweden can fill it up, but not so sure about his defense. As SAC said, Hope might have to have some kids pull double duty for a while. Ya never know.

Looking at the stats for Hope ytd one sees that Mr. Snikkers played 36 minutes in 7 games.  As tough as it might be for this young man personally to endure the fact he will be sitting out another semester it realisticaly looks to have little impact overall on Hope's varsity.  Based on minutes played per game so far it strikes me that GVW has pretty much decided the horses he is going to ride into the MIAA season.  Injuries are the one unkown, but with Hope's stockpile of talent I, for one, am not going to sell Hope short. :)

Gustav "Goose" Nystrom, the kid from Sweden can play and if they were to pull anyone up, he would definitely be one to consider! Physical game, smart, has hops(can and has put it down), and able to drive hard to the hole. Having watched some of both levels, I think he could actually help the Varsity out. Logan Neil and Ryan Ross might also be two that they would look at to fill the forward spot vacated by Snikkers.

The sole reason I didn't mention Nystrom is because Hope has lost two forward type players, Sharples and Snikkers.  I was thinking they'd go for height.  But yeah, he's probably being considered.  The height deficient Dutchmen got shorter this week.

As Realist mentioned, rotation wise I don't think Hope's looking for minutes, I think they'd be looking for depth and practice bodies.

You are probably right, but the only reason I mentioned Nystrom, is he plays alot taller than his listed 6'2".
If it is height and only height, then probably Ross would get the nod, as Hoffmaster and Dickerson are inconsistant and are probably not ready for Varsity.

What about going the mid-season transfer route?  ;D

If it is height, then Ross isn't the answer either. He's another 6'4" wing man on a team full of wing men.

Ross may still be the only real consideration as Kraakevik is tall, but raw.  I guess what it may mean is that there is noone ready to fill the void left by Snikkers/Sharples.

Just popped in my head, the last couple of in-season JV callups I can recall have worked out pretty well for the Dutchmen.

I believe they were Jesse Reimink and Don Overbeek.
