Halftime from AQ

Hope 34 Aquinas 27

Really solid half from Hope, most surprising outrebounding the Saints 19-13, and outshooting the Saints 56% to 34%..........Mr. Hammer is not pleased, count on that.  AQ hit a 3 at the horn to cut it to 7, their first FG in over 6 minutes.

Reimink 12, Krombeen 9, Tanis 5........Go Hope!

As my esteemed friend hope1 pointed out Aquinas' gym has been a tough place for Hope over the years.

I don't know about the skull and cross bones, but given the lighting situation in there, Sac's description isn't all that bad. They need new lights or something  -- the high school at which I teach got rid of those 'old' style lights years ago.

Aquinas 62 Hope 57

Tough loss, AQ played a better second half, and probably could have won easily had it not been for 14 turnovers.  Hope just couldn't take advantage.

Hope went stone cold in the crucial final 4 minutes after leading the whole half, but had the ball down 1 with the shot clock off and threw it away, then missed a 3 that could have tied it after the AQ FT's, more FT's finished the scoring.  I think AQ scored the final 9 points of the game.

Reimink 19, Krombeen 13, Bowser 6, Bunn 6, Osburn 6.

Lazic 17, Lierman 15 for AQ.

Gym of Death it is.

wow, worst livestats ever.
Been watching the "livestats" and 3 times the time has run out and then more time is added on. Frustrating!

It was brutal the whole game, I don't have a lot of faith the stats are accurate.

Timeline shows Hope's last FG came with 5:25 to go, Aquinas scored the final 11 points of the game.   Ugh!

wow, worst livestats ever.

Ever? Or just in the history of D3?

You Calvin folks need new material.   ;)

Sorry--not much else going on for us so far this season.  Maybe when the new gym opens up.

Interesting--on the livestats it still seems to say that substitutions were made with no time left??

Two references to things that happened 3 years ago in 24 hours for you guys.  Need to get together and work on that. ;)

The running clock on the main page was never correct, the full play-by-play looks accurate   http://www.dakstats.com/WebSync/Pages/WebcastPlayByPlay/WebcastPBP_pbp.aspx?CompID=81767&sg=MBB

Spotted Lamont Simpson reffing the Michigan/Oakland game from the The Palace this afternoon.  Its been awhile since I've seen him in an MIAA gym at least that I can recall.  Haven't checked to see if he's done any of our games this year.

realist

Historically defense has been a major factor in MIAA success.  Holding an AQ team to 62 points that 10 days ago beat Calvin by 13 with 78 points leads me to believe that GVW has been working on that aspect of the game.

pointlem

From Hope's loss at Aquinas, here are some positives:

• Despite the reverse home advantage, plus the return of one of Aquinas's three top scorers from last year, Hope showed significant improvement over the DeVos matchup.
• David Krombeen's presence energizes the team and adds offensive punch.  What a pleasure he is going to be to watch the next four years.
• Ty Tanis not only came off the bench to hit some nice shots, but also at times played in a three guard offense with Krombeen and Bunn---giving a lot of shooting power.
• Three-point shooting this year is down from about 40% to 30%, due partly to the new distance (Reimink hit a 2 today that last year would have been a 3).  But it would also help to have a post player who will attract a double team (as do Lazic and Mantel), thus freeing up 3-point shooters for better open looks.  Andy Venema's 2nd half minutes suggested that he may have the strength, size, and shooting touch needed to develop into such a player.
• Jesse Reimink continues to excel in every way and Zach Osburn defends with heart.
• Kelvin Carter handled the ball and defended nicely in his backup point guard role.
• The team defense was energetic, causing 23 turnovers.

The improvement made some of us wonder:  Could today's lineup and rotation be one around which the team will stabilize?
