A team that is 3-5 has not "earned" the right to look past anyone.

realist (sic),
I read the post again as was happy to find this one glimmer of truth.

Merry Christmas to all!

Some might be happy, pleased, satisfied etc. with Calvin's ytd performance, but as a Calvin fan I find it disquieting, disappointing, and disgusting.   :)  The only thing worse than being mediocre is accepting mediority. :(

I'm soliciting your input on the MIAA Pick 'Em board, regarding the use of confidence points.  If you have an opinion, please feel free to share it there.  I will make a decision and have the rules published by January 1.  The first day of games to be picked is on January 7th.

This just occurred to me even though its happened the last few weeks but I wonder prior to now when was the last time no MIAA team received a single vote in the D3hoops Top 25 poll. Any ideas?

Regarding Tim Katt,  doesn't KVS have a history of playing a "favorite" like this?

That is a little like asking "Have you stopped beating your wife?"  Has the "favorite" status been clearly shown?

The other answer is "yes", but they had names like Winkle, Aultman, Veenstra and Veldhouse.

Don't you think Caleb would be better suited to playing the point and having the ball in his hands where he can control the action? I seem to remember a number of years ago when GVW made Josh Canan his point guard for all of two games, then put Joel Holstege back at PG when Glenn realized he had one of the best players in the country and was actually taking the ball out of his hands. I DO see some of Holstege in Krombeen, if anyone cares what I think.

If I were a coach (which I am not) of basketball (which I know nothing of) I would certainly put Caleb (whom I don't care for) at the point for no other reason (though there are several) than that is where he makes me angriest as a Hope fan (which I am).

I hope that made sense (which it may not have).

Initially, I was optimistic  about moving Veldhouse to the 2 spot --thinking he could focus more on scoring (which continues to be a concern) and less energy doing other things. After seeing this switch so far this season, however, I'm rethinking this optimism -- especially since Calvin players are rotated in and out frequently enough that I don't think the 'extra' energy Veldhouse exerts at the point is a factor at all (and I tend to agree with what everyone else has said about putting the ball in the hands of your best player).

I do think, however, as has been stated on these boards repeatedly, that whoever plays the point needs to get the ball into Mantel in the paint a whole lot more than is currently happening. I don't know who would be best at getting this done).

Related to the Tim Katt conversation, the Veldhouse at point conversation, and the playing 'starters' more conversation, I agree that one way or another Calvin needs to increase the number of scoring options. There are some line-ups where there are three Calvin players on the floor who are averaging a paltry number of points, and this makes it far too easy for opponents to shut down the one or two scoring options who are on the floor. I think this part of the reason that Caleb has had some off games this year. No one has replaced Griffin's scoring threat from last year--although Veltama is playing better and might be able to really help Calvin out. I personally think Katt adds a lot of leadership, enthusiasm, and should be given more credit than he has on these boards, but yes, .... put him on the floor with three other players who either can't score or choose not to shoot a lot and I think there's bound to be trouble.

The second Aquinas game was the low point for me so far this year. I didn't even expect Calvin to win, and it was still depressing. Then Hope plays very well, practically beats an improved (or at least larger roster) Aquinas team, and it makes Calvin's performance look even worse than it did -- if that's possible.

It's going to get better. It has to. Merry Christmas.

From the Defiance website--this is a bit of info on Calvin's opponent on Monday

Geneva will come into play riding an impressive 98-94, overtime victory over Bethany on Dec. 13 which brought the Golden Tornados to 2-5 on the year. Much like the offenses of Defiance and Rockford, Geneva pours it in at a clip of 79.3 points per night and boasts five players who net over eight points a night. The attack is led by 19.9 points a game from Richard Colick.

LTK:  I liked most of the things you said.  The one exception would probably have to be that one player.  If memory serves correct, even when he was a starter, (on the floor with the 4 other "best" players) his numbers were never impressive.  That is why he no longer starts.
NB:  You almost had me there for a moment, than I realized that unlike the 4 "favorites" you mention the one above never repaid  >:( KVS's confidence with game changing performances.
