.... They serve a more extensive "menu" than did the Fieldhouse, including all-beaf hot dogs. Obviously, the condiments are the best--and biggest--in D3. ::)

.... but no ice cream bars (on a stick, not the sandwich kind) -- the kind my grandfather always bought for me at the games 35 years ago and the kind I always purchase for my kids.  Also, no Hudsonville ice cream like they've had the last couple years!!!!

Probably just as well. It's one more reason (all the junk food I buy my kids) that my wife hates the basketball games.

Too bad so few Adrian followers were able to see what must have been one of the great moments in recent Bulldog hoops history.

Of the 180 officially in attendance, I'd bet that almost half of them were Adrian fans.  Not many students, but plenty of family members from the looks of it.  It would have been great to have a better crowd, but given the weather I thought it was a pretty decent showing from our side.

As to the status of last night as one of the great moments in recent Bulldog hoops history, it was quite an exciting win.  I guess how high it ranks depends on how recent "recent" is.  It's certainly the greatest win so far this year ;).  However, in my mind it can only be a truly great moment if we use this win to build momentum over the rest of the season.  I think that's what we'll do, and I look forward to watching it.

That number doesn't surprise me too much. Albion doesn't return from break until the 20th.

Congratulations Calvin and Olivet on new stadiums!

Competition breeds success, and if stadium-building is any indicator, the MIAA is going to be one of the nicer leagues to play in. That should hopefully help our chances at getting more teams to come play here :)

One of you numbers people go calculate the average age of MIAA gyms. I think it would be interesting to see it compared to other conferences.

Again, congratulations on programs with new facilities. I remember how proud I was (am) of Devos when it first opened. Enjoy the ride!

Kresge throws that average off significantly.

Adrian --  Merillat Center  1990  (isn't the gym the original but renovated ?)
Albion -- Kresge Gymnasium 1926 renovated early 90's ?
**Alma --  Cappaert Gymnasium 1969
Calvin -- Van Noord Arena 2009
Hope -- DeVos Fieldhouse 2006
Kalamazoo -- Anderson Athletic   ???? don't know but its old and renovated ?
Olivet -- Cutler Events Center 2009
Trine --  Hershey Hall --early to mid 60's best I can find

**Alma is supposed to be building a new gym added on to the Hogan Center where Cappaert is located.

The MIAA is getting a nice collection of facilities but I'll say it again there are plenty of good facilities out there in D3.   Wheaton, Carthage, Wooster, Wittenberg, Capital, UW-Stevens Point, all places I've been beat anything the MIAA has except DeVos and VanNoord.  I've never been to IWU or Chicago's new place but I've heard they are very nice.

It was strange.  I'm hoping they can program it to show the team fouls.

I agree.  As a true fan, how can I complain about the officiating if I can't see the discrepancy in team fouls on the scoreboard?   ;) ;)

Who even manufactures a scoreboard without team fouls?  That one's on the manufacturer not Calvin.

The two large video screens were not on last night.  I have no idea how they will be used when operational, but I wonder if additional statistics might be a possibility.

I agree that it's weird that a scoreboard wouldn't have team fouls, but you would also think that the scoreboard should have been spec'd to have a team foul spot and that Calvin and the construction company would have seen pictures/diagrams/specs, etc. for the scoreboard before it was installed.  We'll see what happens.

VanNoord has not one but two concession areas, one on the concourse level and a second one on the lower level to service those seated in the court-side bleachers. They serve a more extensive "menu" than did the Fieldhouse, including all-beaf hot dogs. Obviously, the condiments are the best--and biggest--in D3. ::)

Well, thank heavens!  It's been tough being #1 (in condiments, anyway) -- glad to have that target off of our backs.   :D ;D ;) 8)

OK;  Thanks for the info on Schnyders.  Now that you mention it I do recall the hand injury.
Hoopd:  Not being critical, but it is hard to promote someone for MVP after one game let alone before any games are played.  :) I think JR is as fine a player as there is in the MIAA right now, definitely another in a long line of Hope standouts.  Just the other day I said any team is going to have a hard time beating Hope when JR hits in mid to hi 20's. However, as Sac: points out he does have some competion in Mr. Mc Clary.  I also think some Calvin fans would voice considerable support for Mr. Mantel with 27 points and 11 rebounds.
If memory serves correct the large video screens are tied in with the same system that would be used to do webcasts.  The screens can do replays etc.  Calvin hired a video expert to set up and operate the system.  It may be very possible to do a scroll or something of that nature to supply the "missing" foul data.  The offical dedication of the new complex is set for Homecoming weekend Feb. 19, 20, 21.  I am sure some of the kinks will be worked out by then, and all the bells and whistles will be functioning.
MI 2AA:  When you run those numbers on the age of the various fieldhouses in the MIAA it is interesting that the old fieldhouse at Calvin only opened in 1965.  When Calvin looked at doing a major renovation on that facility it quickly learned it was almost better to start over with a new facility.  Perhaps the other schools are learning the same thing.  A big factor for Calvin was making the entire complex handicap accessible, as required by law.

bulldogalum:  Just curious what it felt like being at Kresge, playing Albion without Coach Turner roaming/pacing the sidelines.

Desmond Young at Adrian is having every bit the MVP season as anyone else.  He's been tearing it up most of the season.

I'm reminded that Olivet's scoreboard apparently doesn't have a specific place for team fouls either, although I didn't notice it.

I do remember seeing the numbers up there.

Jesse's been hitting that virtually every night all season, and this when defenses are gearing to stop him. The kid is the real deal. He's been good every year he's been at Hope, and this year he has elevated his game even further. He has a series of nifty moves inside, and he's deadly from the outside. He plays hard every minute he's on the floor. The only weakness in his game is when he puts the ball on the floor. He's become a very, very good player. Over the last five years at Hope, he and Stephen Cramer are the best two players I've seen in the blue and orange.

FWIW... I'll reiterate that this past fall i gave an opinion that Reimink could be MVP and was lit up for it.  Role player doesn't get it, has to come from league champ, etc..... Until someone takes away the opportunity for him to catch and shoot (how many times can a kid pick and pop?) or get him in seriuos foul trouble, he will continue to kill it.  Nobody works harder and he is deserving! (to this point)

I don't remember that you got "lit up" for positing that Reimink could be MVP. In fact, if Hope wins the regular season crown, it's pretty clear he's the odds-on favorite.

Ditto for Desmond if the Bulldogs win the crown.

Nice of you to defer. 8) From the comment in the Daily Dose, it's apparent that Pat agrees. ;)

Doesn't league MVP count only in-league statistics?
