Having seen Jungling play this past summer, I am excited about the prospect of him being on the team.  Remembering that Bunn was initially to play the pg position, I can understand the tough decision they had to make this past fall.  I'm glad that they were willing to call him in and that he's willing to come in at this point.  I believe that both sides of the equation were looking for him to try out again next fall, and I for one am glad that he got a second look this season.

Jungling is the perfect fit and he probably wishes his journey had begun in Holland, rather than looking for a lttle scholly $$$.  Still doesn't explain why you don't dip into the talent already in the program.  One has to admit that picking someone off the street, literally, is a bit odd considering the guards already in the program.  The whole "need to keep the JV kids together" doesn't hold up.  How often do teams see intense backcourt pressure anymore?  Wasn't Bosch kept last year as a reserve PG?

With the departure of Sharples and Snikkers, why not bring up a 4 man?  I think the lack of depth in the paint is more glaring than the backcourt.  Nelis hasn't shown that he can defend and vennema has been inconsistant on the glass and on D.

Not only can Bunn and Bosch can play the point, but it may be difficult to bring in two kids with no recent (Jungling didn't get a lot of clock last year if I remember correctly)varsity experience into the conference season, to run the show, when the playing rotations have been tightened up.

SAC, back around the time of Plank, didn't Poppink make the roster after not playing the year before?  I always thought that was interesting, maybe having something to do with his younger bro being a stud?(Stanford, I believe is where he ended up)

Yes, you have to count Jorin! He was on the official roster, even if only for 2 days!!!

Jungling is the first player I can recall who was cut in the fall and then brought back later in the season.  But really, Hope's roster changes have been pretty extreme this year.  I can't remember ever losing two players to non-injuries, then Carter hurts his knee.  Really Hope has lost 3 that made the varsity squad if we count the infamous Jorin Scott........that makes 4 if Carter is out.

That all is both unusual and extreme.

I seem to recall Kevin Brintnell and Kyle Plank both being cut and then returning a year later, but that was a long time ago and I may not have that right.

Was it 2 years ago or 3 that Hope had alot of changes and player injuries resulting in a season that was less stellar than was expected.  Weren't DVS or other key players injured and out for most of the season?  Or was that just a pleasant Knollcrest dream?

With Kurtis Carroll already called up to varsity, it would be difficult to pull Jeff Keyser up as well, then you're left with really no point guard on JV..........is that correct?

Why no big guys?.........well I'm not sure Hope has any big guys on the JV they feel comfortable pulling up to varsity.  The entire Hope program right now has 2 guys over 6-6.   There just aren't any to call on.

2005 ---   Immink hurt his knee before the season began, 4 players suspended, ranging from 2 to 4 games,  Andy Phillips dislocated a finger and missed most of the season.  It was a hoot.

Good memory.  He was on the 1993 team as a Soph., wasn't on the 94 or 95 teams.  I don't have a 1992 roster but I don't think he was on that team.

The 1993 team really struggled after a big Sr. class graduated in 1992 (Wade Gugino, Colly Carlson,  Tom Halbert, Bart VerHulst, Jon Joffe, Eric Haas, Scott Bishop, Rick Zuiderveen.....I think, not sure on Bishop and Zuiderveen)  The 93 team was light on talent, Poppink was one of 6 Soph's that year.

Hey northb,

Did you get seats in section 101 of the Van Noord to keep your relationship to the floor consistent? Does that make you eastb now?

At least the Dutchmen won the final game of the year, which was also the final game in the Civic Center, against Calvin.

I guess I am inferring to Bunn playing a bit of PG, not necessarily bringing Keyser up.  I find it hard to believe that a kid who has played PG his entire life, in hs and on arguably the top AAU program in the state, was recruited by major D1 programs (Iowa State) to play PG, suddenly cannot fill in to spell Krombeen after 5 games as a shooting guard?  Prior personal experience allows me to say that the transition is not that challenging.  Jungling ( not good enough to make the team) or Karrol(JV) are better options than a D1 transfer?  It's irrevelant what I think, I just find the whole situation odd.  Let me reiterate- I'm truly happy for Scott, he is a solid player who kids love playing with.

Does anyone see similarities to Reimink and Colly Carlson? Jesse is a much better shooter, but the intensity and effort are common.  I always felt Colly was the glue to those teams.  Boy, did he HATE playing Calvin

I should have said loved playing them because his passion for Hope was so strong.

Maybe bringing Jungling back was just to get Hope to 14 players again, so they can conduct effective practices?  I don't expect Jungling or Carroll play a whole lot to be honest.

Flying Dutch Fan

Just a thought, but it seems to me that Hope has in the last 4-5 games really excelled in a 2 point guard offense.  By that I mean literally having 2 pg on the floor together.  With the size of Hope's guards, and their ability to rebound, I almost see them as playing with a 1a, 1b, 2, 3, and 4.  The only guy who truly is playing as a 5 would be when Venema is in.
