While Hope has not lost at Kalamazoo since the 95-96 season (a 2 point win for the Hornets),

The Stingers from that game #2 of 4 of K vs Hope in '95-96. They are missed.

As much fun as it might be I would be very careful trying to Monday morning qb GVW.   :) Bringing Jungling back (if he is well liked by the other players) makes sense for practice like Sac mentions.  He may only see time during mop up operations, and if GVW needs size he still can dress a JV guy if he feels it necessary.   Frankly I think this sort of indicates we may be seeing much more 3 gaurd combo's on the floor for Hope.  With the  scoring spread around Hope gets just that much harder to defend esp. beyond the arc.  The only weakness that I can see on the Hope team is what happens if Riemink gets hurt like happened to Mantel last Sat?

2005 ---   Immink hurt his knee before the season began, 4 players suspended, ranging from 2 to 4 games,  Andy Phillips dislocated a finger and missed most of the season.  It was a hoot.

Yes, Yes it was    ;)

A hoot-and-a-half, as my cousin Southb would say

At least the Dutchmen won the final game of the year, which was also the final game in the Civic Center, against Calvin.

Actually, Calvin won Hope's final game of the year, then went on to a few more themselves.

Hey northb,

Did you get seats in section 101 of the Van Noord to keep your relationship to the floor consistent? Does that make you eastb now?

To tell the truth, on opening night I was sitting across from the bench, above the students, but could not tell you which direction that was!  It will take a couple games to get my directional bearings.

Wasn't the year of the suspensions and Phillips' and Imminks' injuries the last year of the Civic Center? I know Hope beat Calvin in the final game at the CC, with a pretty depleted roster. Someone help me out here.

That would be correct. Civic Center's last year was the 2004-2005 basketball season.

Like Realist, I would be concerned about the Hope team in the event Reimink had an injury.  It would be tough to replace his scoring and overall presence on the court plus the resulting attention the current 2nd & 3rd scoring options would thus receive.

Let's hope that doesn't happen but maybe it would open up a spot for Gustav "Goose" Nystrom from the JV team!  He's a bit raw and has to work on his overall defense but he's fun to watch from the offensive end!  He's only listed at 6'2" but plays much bigger.

Hope won the last Hope/Calvin game in the Civic, but the last game was celebrated vs Alma 3 days later............the last, last game was the first round of the MIAA tournament the next week.

http://miaa.org/mbb/stats/0405/HOP-M.HTM

Calvin then beat Hope at Albion in the MIAA semi-final to mercifully put an end to 'the lost season'.

I imagine, so is Kzoo's starting 5 from that game.  (Phillips, Blattert, Cole, Gordon, Strecker...or did Ellison start??)

Also I came across a name this afternoon related to brothers playing on opposite teams/potentially against each other.  Wasn't there a Buss who played for Kzoo, I noticed Matt Buss played at Albion in 93..............anyone remember?

This is a long shot, but if you don't ask you will never get it...

Does anyone have an extra one or two tickets to THE RIVALRY on Sat. at the DeVos.  If so, send me an email.

Also, I was at the Calvin game on Wed. when they dedicated the Van Noord Arena.  Does any Calvin Alum want my Opening Night Program.  If so, just let me know.  A Contribution to the Hope Alumni Fund is allowed but not required!

I guess that makes you one of the SouthCs now, because you're in the chairs, not the bleachers.

I just talked to another outstanding Hope fan who informed me he had two extra tickets to the Hope game that I could use!  Thank you, Tom!

Just remember, there's "AlwaysHope!"

P.S.  I just heard from impeccable sources that Krombeen is being tutored this week by Greg in the fine art of the "Immink Flop", so that if a certain guard drives to the hoop late in the game he will be assessed another offensive charge.

Calvin then beat Hope at Albion in the MIAA semi-final to mercifully put an end to 'the lost season'.

It was a "lost season," in that Hope was heavily favored to win the MIAA, but the injuries to two key starters, including the returning MIAA MVP, and early suspensions took their toll.

But some good did come out of it.  If I remember correctly, soph Stephen Cramer got a lot of playing time, and had the opportunity to show everyone his skills.  The rest, as they say, is Hope history.
