To tell the truth, on opening night I was sitting across from the bench, above the students, but could not tell you which direction that was!  It will take a couple games to get my directional bearings.

Then you were on the south side of the arena.

Any more news on Mantel's injury?  Will he be playing this week?

Sounds like John is just fine.

In other news, Tyler turned his ankle while on the dinner break on the way to the game.  He is dressed but doubtful.

Mantel already has a double double with 11 minutes left.  Calvin up 57-35.  Dustin Smith appears to be shooting the lights out.

Hope beats Kalmazoo 80-71, setting up the battle of MIAA unbeatens this Saturday.

NWH:  I tend to agree with you on the literary ability of the Sentinel.  Perhaps the point the paper was really trying to make was Passage like GVW is coaching his alma mater.  A side point is Passage playing against GVW coached team, and now coaching against him.  I just took it as a weak attempt at a human interest story.
I would like to meet you, and have enjoyed some of the games at the De Vos, but won't be there this time.

My gaster is pretty much flabbered at the 87-56 thumping the Knights put on Adrian tonight.
The Bulldogs made a nice run to get back within striking distance midway through the second half, but this one was all Calvin.
Lots of balance in the scoring, led by Smith with 18 and Veldhouse, Mantel and Veltema with 12 each.  Katt added 10.
Big rebounding edge for the Knights, 43-25, and a huge advantage in turnovers, as well.  Pretty dominant win on the road, considering that Tyler Zoerhof was on the bench with a tweaked ankle.
KVS seemed just as dazed and pleased by the Calvin performance in his post game interview.
Now, for the showdown in Holland....

43-25 rebounding advantage for Calvin.  I really thought Adrian would be a much tougher game.  No question Desmond is a great player, but is just hard for any one guy to carry a team pretty much by himself.
This definitely sets up Sat. as another classic Calvin/Hope rivalry game.

Albion 73 Olivet 71.  Best game of the night.

MK:  My personal advice for the KVS portion of the night is "you know" a glass of wine.

My personal advice is to make it two glasses.  It adds a mellow glow to the realism, you know. ;D

KVS said he held personal meetings this week and everyone is confident but "you know" not over confident.

Anyone notice how much he says "you know" I counted 27 times during tonight's interview and thought that it felt like a little less than normal.  GO KNIGHTS, BEAT hope!

In the first couple of years KVS was at Calvin, my dad counted the number of times he uttered "you know" during the post-game interview.  It's a hard habit to break -- both saying it and fixating on it.  You know?

Looking at the Hope stats it looks like 14 guys got on the floor at some point.  Scoring spread all over the place with Riemink and Bunn in double figures.
With Calvin having 5 guys hit double figures, and contolling the boards it is going to be interesting to see how GVW aligns his bodies.
At this time the only advantage that I can see for Hope is home court, and we all know that is a considerable advantage.   :)  Hope probably can cover Veldhouse, and shut Smith down, but not sure the same is true if Calvin forces the game inside.

gk:  I did what you said with that 2nd glass of wine, and now I am afraid the rapture came, and left all us Calvin folks behind. ;)  Don't think I've ever seen 12+ Calvin posts in a row, and no Hope live reports.  On second thought maybe this means we are the lucky ones, and the Hope posters were left behind. ::)

Another reason Governor Paterson will give serious considertion to KVS's application for the U.S. Senate. ::)

Random thoughts from the night:

1: Trine could really use Tony Benford.
2: Albion-Olivet; although it was a close game, one of these teams probably isn't as good as I/we think they are.
3: Trine could really use, well.... anyone
4: It's probably still way to early to make statements like #2, oh well.
5: There is going to be a VERY good game in Holland on Saturday.
6: Calvin can't let Jesse Reimink beat them on Saturday.
7: Calvin can't let anyone else beat them either, but seriously don't let Jesse get an open look.
8: Trine is in a very rough spot right now.
