Is it safe to assume (based on the Bowser/Klein comparison) that Mr Bowser is not the heir apparenet for Mr. Riemink?
Who might be?

Easiest answer:  No one!

Hope will be highly guard oriented next year, I almost expect them to start 3 guards.  Long way off.

Sac,

Are you missing Drew Yancey in your list of possible MVP's or Players of the Week?
Last week he had 43 points, 14 rebounds and was 18-32 from the field.  Not having a team favorite I  just read and don't write comments because I usually make a fool out myself.  His stats caught my eye Saturday night.

Drew's a nice player he just doesn't seem on the same level with guys like Reimink, McClary, Young, Mantel.   His efficiency ratings are basically half of McClary, Reimink.   In Albion's offense I think he'd find it hard to sustain MVP type numbers.  Travis DePree didn't have great numbers when he won the MVP, Yancy does not posess the same intangibles that DePree did, at least from what I've seen of him.

DePree's assist numbers made him special.  He ranks #3 in assists per game for an MIAA career since 1988-99.  There is no denying that he made everyone around him better, while still getting stats of his own.

I agree.  And, that's why it is important to look beyond the stats and focusing on who scores the most points.  A player that shows leadership and makes the team better, in a winning program, should have heavy consideration for MVP.  That's why I'm in the corner of Dustin Smith of Calvin.  The Knights started out with a 3-5 record while KVS tinkered with his starting lineup.  When he reinserted Dustin into the starting lineup in game 9, they then began their current 6 game winning streak.  There are certainly a lot of valuable players on the Calvin team and I don't want to slight Caleb or John as worthy candidates, but I just happen to think Dustin is, for now, providing the spark that has turned this team around.

As a reminder, with a victory over Olivet on wednesday at the magnificent VanNoord Arena, KVS becomes the winningest coach in Calvin basketball history.  Go Knights!

So using that kind of logic, we should be talking about David Krombeen as an MVP candidate as well.

Sorry, FDF, but you didn't follow it all the way through.  Playing for the winning program this year would require the MVP be a Calvin player.  I think Krombeen plays for the Flying Duthchmen.  Maybe next year.  Who knows?  But, as a fan of the orange and blue, it is still a bit of a win-win situation for you since Dustin has attended both Hope and Calvin. ;)

But, of course, the best chant remains "where's your banner?"  (And I'm not talking about women's hoops  ;).)

Then we have this lesson from someone's tagline......
QuoteYour = possessive. As in, "your grammar sucks."

You're = you are. As in, "you're an idiot for not knowing the difference."

....and finally followed by this.......

So I guess the question is then, are there no mirrors in VanNoord?  ;)

Well, sac, as you have probably heard, the VanNoord is really quite large (you know we can't fill it) and I haven't had a chance to check out any mirrors yet, but I did notice a couple of really nice banners. ;) ;)

    • And speaking of calls . . . Calvin fans, it looked to many of us like Jesse had a clean block on that foul call that led to the winning free throws.  Was this the refs deciding the game?  (I'll grant, you were closer.)

One of the advantages of staying at home to watch the Calvin/Hope game is the benefit of replay. After seeing the replay, I would have to say that Calvin caught a break on that one. I'm guessing it was merely a make-up for the call under the same basket from 3 years ago when Caleb got mugged by Hope's # 10. ::) ;)

One of the disadvantages of staying at home to watch the Calvin/Hope game is having to endure what was, at best, a pedestrian broadcast by the Channel 35 crew. Tom Cleary is a good play-by-play announcer but he and his broadcast partner (whose name I never caught) left something to be desired when it came to analysis. For example, in the first half Mantel got the ball low in the blocks, gave a head fake, waited for two Hope defenders--one on each side--to sail harmlessly by, and then laid the ball in the basket.

The brilliant analysis of the broadcast team was that this exemplified how John played "too soft" because if he had gone up immediately he would have made the basket and drawn a foul. ??? Gee whiz guys, it was perfect execution of post-up play that he probably rehearses on a daily basis at practice. It was enough to get me to mute the TV and send me to Doug Wentworth's broadcast for better insight. :o

I also spent some time listening to the internet broadcast team from d3hoops. They were excellent and conveyed a sense of the excitement of the game very well. The only distraction with using the internet broadcast was the long delay in their audio signal vis-a-vis the video. Kudos to Pat and the folks at d3hoops for doing an audio broadcast of the game.

go back and look again. that foul was called on krombeen. sheesh. pay attention[/list]
I'm Chevy Chase and you're not.
