Any word on where they rank in the history of DIII?

Veldhouse is on the floor with an ankle injury, no weight on it as he came to the bench...

Doug Wentworth line of the night:
"I haven't seen that official before.  I wonder what Cracker Jack box they got him out of."

They said it was the greatest upset in a brand new arena in D3.  ;D

Well Alma hung around but the margin was never less than 12 I don't think.  Hope pulled away the final 1/2 of the half.

Redditt 18  , DeHaan 12

Adrian and Albion are both winning easily.

Huge win for the Bulldogs on the road tonight.  They needed to respond in a big way to what happened over the last two games, and they certainly did.  This sets up a big game with Hope in scenic Lenawee County on Saturday.

On a different note, congrats to the Comets on what has to be one of their bigger wins in quite some time.

Congratulations to the Comets on their 60-57 win over Calvin. The McClarys and Andre Evans are a nice trio of players who competed well and I thought Olivet's role players did a nice job too. Actually, the Knights did a pretty good job on Brandon McClary, holding him to 4-9 from the floor and only 3 rebounds, but Michael had a big night with 16 and 11. Calvin got miserable shooting nights from Mantel and Veldhouse who combined for 7-32 from the floor--and they both did nearly all their scoring in the first 15 minutes of the game. It's pretty tough to win when your top two scorers do that. Calvin did win the battle of the boards 39-33 but it seemed that Olivet got a lot of big ones down the stretch. Calvin had three chances to tie the game with Veldhouse missing two treys and Veltema missing one in the final 15 seconds. The reason the livestats were stuck for so long is that Olivet knocked the ball OB under the Calvin basket with .8 seconds and the teams then called a total of 3 timeouts. When Calvin finally did inbound to Mantel his hurried three point attempt finished wide of the mark. Veltema had a nice game finishing with 15 and doing most of Calvin's scoring down the stretch, but this was a game Olivet deserved to win. We have a race folks.

Went to the Calvin game and saw first-hand what happened.  They got their butts kicked by a team that played harder and smarter and deserved to win.  There are no legitimate excuses to be claimed.  Although the score was mostly even until pulled ahead with a 23-17 lead, the Knights played hard and really hit the boards well.  Once they got up by six, they seemed to give up, became rather lethargic and Olivet gained confidence.  The VanNoord still doesn't seem to have a home court feel for the Knights.

Veldhouse went down hard and when he was carried off the floor it looked like an injury that could make him miss several games.  I was surprised to see him return and when he did, he wanted in.  During his absence, Salo stepped up his game and made some valuable contributions.  But, the lead slipped away agan and with 4 minutes left, Veltema kept them in the game.  They had 3 looks (one not a very good one) at a 3 point shot but none found the net.  Ball was knocked out of bounds with Calvin possession under their own basket with .8 seconds left.  After several time-outs, Veldhouse inbounded to Mantel and he threw up a shot a little too quickly.  It never had a chance.

Way too many missed free throws.  Had just one of those misses gone the other way, the ending would have had many more possibilities and I'm quite sure we would have seen an overtime.  It was a surprising game.  Calvin played lackluster and Olivet is talented and well coached.

Officiating crew was awful, but no worse for Calvin and for Olivet.  I think they all got new whistles and thougth they should try them out and check out the accoustics in the new arena.  We could all hear them very well from every corner of the arena.

The only positive I saw tonight was the tenths of seconds working on the clock and
red lights on the backboard. (1 sentence)
