(and in living in WM for 20 years, I never once heard Hudsonville referred to as hooterville)

Really?  I don't think a lot of folks who live there call it that, but I know lots of folks who grew up there and then moved out (to the metropolis of Holland) that call it that.

They've got everything on the internet these dys.

hooterville  --  The name approximates Hooverville - a term used for shantytowns and camptowns that emerged during the Great Depression

Obamaville or Bushtown doesn't have the same ring.

Also saw a couple of guys from Wisconsin Parkside talking to Mickey Cochran. Remember, VandeStreek lives in Hooterville and his kids attended Unity Christian (a comment that will probably get a "Duh" from other posters, but I mention it anyway.) Spotted two gents in Blue windbreakers with a "D" logo that looked something like Duke's, but I'm thinking they weren't. Any ideas??

Davenport?
Defiance?
DePaul?
DePauw?

Given the number of Michigan kids on current and former rosters........I'll go with Drake.

You're on to something. West Ottawa's Leonard Houston was a star on the team that won the MoValley last year, and the Heemskerk kid from GR Christian is a senior this year. Drake already has a commitment from 6'8" Ben Simons from Cadillac. The Zeeland exit is on the road back home to Des Moines. Finally, Drake's colors are blue. Go Bulldogs--both of them, but on this day, especially the ones from Adrian. :o

As for the Hooterville name, well sac, you should get out more often. ;)

I'm not sure its not getting out enough as much as its just when someone says hooterville, small(ish) west michigan towns is not the first thing that pops into my head.

I have no idea, but when a kid hits 120 shots in a row from beyond the arc, even if it's practice, I would think he's going to get a look or two from some big-name schools.

I heard Bret Bakita tell that story on the radio a few weeks ago.  I have a hard time believing that.  It's hard to make a 120 layups in a row.  I don't think the best NBA 3 point shooter could stand at the H.S. arc and make a 120 in row.  I'm skeptical.

Well, at least it is not like the "quick hit" white-out snow blizzard we had driving last night from Lansing to Detroit for the Hope College/Lawarence Tech hockey game which started at 10:00 PM.  A dangerous situation which hit quickly from about 7:30 to 11:00 PM, but was entirely gone on the drive back.  BTW, Hope won a very tough game 4-3 through perceverence.  The two teams have a rematch tonigh in Holland at Hope's home ice arena The Edge.  Hope needs to win this one too to keep its "hope - no pun intended ;D" alive for returning to the national tournament for the 7 or so straight year.  If any of you are inclined, come out to The Edge tonight and support the team.  It is a fun time.

Anyway, safe travels to all of you at the basketball game(s) today.

Nah, the jacket didn't give any indication as to the team's nickname. It simply was the Duke "D" sitting on top of a basketball rim/net. I guess you had to see it. Oh, well. Safe travels, all.
I'm Chevy Chase and you're not.

What's up with Mantel and his free throw shooting?

Calvin survives dreadful foul shooting and the absence of starters Caleb Veldhouse and Danny Rodts in a tough. foul-filled test at Kresge.

Calvin 79
Albion 73

Matt Veltema had a big day with a career high 21. Big John Mantel had 24 points and 12 boards for another double-double, but he could have scored 30 plus if he could have hit those unguarded 15-footers.  Dustin Smith also had 13.

The Knights outrebounded Albion 41-30, and Mantel shut down Drew Yancey, who finished with 4 points on 1-11 shooting from the field.  Andrew Holmes led the Brits with 21.
