Quoting Sac:  Jesse shot 42.7% in the MIAA games last season............and he wasn't being held, pushed, bumped, shoved, grappled, etc etc nearly as much.  Nor was he facing as much help defense, this year 2 to 3 players are coming at him almost every touch."

I am sure when the above quote was posted it was done in the spirit of Kumbaya.   :)
However, some Calvin fan may read it that Mr. Riemink is due some sort of special treatment either because he is a star, and/or because he plays for Hope.

I don't know... I would hope it reads and sounds the same. It sounds like props for a guy who is being guarded like a leading MVP candidate. It didn't sound like to me that SAC was complaining about the coverage as much as he is highlighting the rise in his play under the circumstances... Just my take.  ??? :P
NWH:  My intent was to try to be positive about Sac's post, and Mr. Riemink at the same time.  My goal was to say that some readers might have a different slant on the post than Sac intended or what you and I got out of it.
No doubt Jesse is the leading MVP candidate at this point in time, and it will take a superhuman effort for anyone to beat him out of the crown.  At the same time no one should expect that other teams/players are going to rollover and play dead just because he is on the floor. :)

I think Jesse is having an outstanding season in almost every category, and he definitely seems to be the most consistent player thus far.

Mr. Coleman is exactly right that a reaction is the surest way to motivate another jab. Deep breaths, some dark chocolate and/or a glass of wine might diffuse the tension (works for me).

Looking forward to tomorrow's game, but first have to get through a high school game tonight.

Having seen most of the MVP's for the last 40 years,  fans of each team they played for thought the guy was targeted, and didn't get some calls he should have.  On the other hand the fans of the opposing teams thought the guy got preferential treatment.  Classic example would be Honderd.

Just like Sac"s statement it really depends on your perspective.    :)  You can't enjoy the respect being a mvp candidate brings without realizing other teams are going to try to shut you down.

I'm sure that sac's comment was simply to point out the actualy situation in which Jesse is playing this year.  If anyone were to interpret this to be some kind of complaint, well I guess that would say a lot more about them than it does about the original post or the poster.
FDF:  Just like my response to NWH above, I am sure that is exactly what Sac was intending, and I too read it that way.  However, there is no quarantee that everyone will read it, and interpret it that way.  I was merely pointing out that another reader (not a Hope fan) might interpret it in another manner.  I thought the orignal quote of GVW which started this brouha was trite, and should have been edited out of the article.  At the same time the defensive response of some Hope posters only served to fuel the fun some posters got from continuing to poke at it.    That is the point that I think Pat is trying to make.
I can only speak for myself, but I have been on this board long enough that I can provoke a negative over reation on the part of most Hope posters anytime I would wish to do so.  I am willing to admit that.  IMHO one or more Hope posters knows exactly what to say to provoke a negative reaction from most Calvin fans.  Personally I enjoy the back and forth tremendously until someone decides they are offended by what someone else wrote, and tries to grab the moral high ground by claiming that neither they nor anyone from their school would ever write a negative (or potentially inflamatory) post about another school.
One person's smart remark may be another person's clever, witty comment.

I absolutely agree... And I figured it was what you you were intending. Maybe next time you should open with "Dear fellow Calvin posters, this is what Sac was trying to say..."   ;)
From you of all people I was fairly sure of your intentions.

One person's smart remark may be another person's clever, witty comment.

You do have to admit though, that over the years there have clearly been several jerks. We all may come off that way once in a while (I'll admit it), but some that have little good to say... ever! And some that continue to be immature, not knowing when to quit pushing buttons.

Back and forth... Good!
Healthy rivalries... Good!
Being 30... 40... Older... and acting like a junior higher... LAME!

Pretty much.  It just comes down to knowing when to stop.

I posted a pretty simple observation 'We almost made it 3 days' and thats all it was, an observation..............-5 karma since then,  THAT is immature and lame beyond any reasonable adult thought process.

For the record I haven't touched anyone's karma because I think its lame, I've only dished +k occasionaly.  Its just out there and easy to see and SOOO predictable when certain people log in whats going to happen.  Clockwork.

I usually stay out of these discussions entirely because it's a sure way to lose karma no matter what you say. But there is a lot of wisdom in some old saws. One in particular that applies to chat rooms: don't feed the trolls. It only encourages them. [ Trish can take it.  ;) ]

If I have to provide definitions to two different fan bases on what I post..........well then whats the point.   Its straight up English, if you spend more than 3 seconds trying to figure out whats being said than you're over analyzing. :-\

Well, ahem, let's not bring up the women in office issue again. This board has seen enough diviseness for the week. ;)

Careful now - too much wine and then you'll start dancing - which of course could lead to suspension or even expulsion from the Calvin campus.
