The program resets?

No offense, but that's news to me. It only "resets" if posts are deleted. They could be really, really old posts, but if the posts go away, then the page numbers change all the way down the line so that there remains 15 posts per page.

Could be a moderator deleting posts, could be a user deleting themselves and taking their posts with them, could be a poster deleting their own posts, but the board doesn't reset itself.

Holland Christian's A.J. Westendorp to CMU

For those who don't know, AJ is a football recruit (QB) for the Chips and broke a few state playoff records for Holland Christian this past fall.

I see he's on the HC basketball roster, how is he at hoops?
Last I heard, he was still sidelined, recovering from an ankle injury during fb championship game. No sense rushing him back, if he goes back at all. HC doing OK without him.

He's playing again.  I believe he is the 6th or 7th man on his team.  I give him credit for playing.  I don't like the emphasis ofspecializing in one sport.

He's a decent basketball player, but nothing special. He IS something special at QB however. Most seasoned observers have said he's the best HS QB to play in West MI in a long, long time. Better than Nichols or Cousins. I saw him play a couple of times and he is the real deal. I couldn't believe he wasn't getting major offers. His stats:

                     Rushing                  Passing
Statistics     Yds            TD         Pct              Yds    TD    Int
2008 (Sr.)    1,250        25         69.3          3,600    40    4

Additionally, he's a 4.0 student and crushed his ACT.

HC is right, the kid is a fabulous high school QB. I think CMU got a steal. I've seen him play and he can do it all--a great arm with a quick release, very accurate even when on the run, and a load to take down when he tucks the ball. He was also a terrific linebacker and I understand he holds all of Holland Christian's weightlifting records. I understand he wants to be a pre-med student and people who know him expect he will suceed at that too. He single-handedly beat Detroit Country Day in the state finals. My son was a decent high school football player who follows the prep ranks faithfully, and he claims AJ is the best athlete he's ever seen on a West Michigan high school football field. I've also seen Westendorp play hoops and it's pretty clear he doesn't touch a basketball except during the season. If he concentrated on hoops he probably would be a pretty decent high school player but football is clearly his sport.

Congratulations to Westendorp on his CMU fb scholarship.  Sounds like a top-notch student and young man.  However, if he is planning on pre-med (and eventually med school), he should have gone to Hope  (or Calvin-except that your school doesn't have fb obviously ;)) - better chance at getting in to med school! ;D ;) :o  Besides, for those of us who are "DIII" purists, a higher level of athletics ;D  In all seriousness, though, I wish him all the best at his next level in all aspects.

He'll be back. They (almost) always come back.

KS:  I wouldn't be terribly concerned about Calvin's numbers on the Van Noord floor.  Remember they did not get much time to become acquainted with the building, and the floor before the MIAA games started.  Hope had much more time to become familiar with the De Vos before the league games.  I think Calvin will do just fine in the new building.
Thanks, as always, for the excellent job on the stats Sac:  I look at all those numbers, and my eyes start to glaze over.

VanDussen can flat out play.  His passing and ballhandling reminded me of David Krombeen and Andrew Olson.  Get really excited if he comes here.

AJ's a beast.

If my phone and email are any indication, VanDussen may not end up in the MIAA. He has fans coast-to-coast (OK, Lake Michigan to Atlantic).

Hope had one of our AAU kids down for Olivet game, our leading scorer the last two seasons (playing with a DI and DII recruit) 6-1 shooter/power guard Corey Williams from Traverse City St. Francis. Another Parallel 45 kid to make it down to Holland recently was 6-6 Joe Arnold of Gaylord.

It would be a mighty coup.

The first regional rankings are out.

Great Lakes Region
1. Capital  17-2  15-2
2. Carnegie Mellon  14-4  10-3
3. John Carroll  14-4  12-3
4. Calvin  12-6  7-1
5. Hope  14-5  7-2
6. Ohio Northern  14-5  12-4

Judging by the first regional rankings, it isn't far-fetched to think that the MIAA again gets two teams into the tournament.  With all of the talk about the weak conference and the poor scheduling, it's always fun to see two teams get in.  If both Hope & Calvin win out and meet in the conference tournament finals, I could see the loser squeeking in (especially if Calvin beats Hope next Wednesday and then Hope wins the AQ).

Have to take care of business first though.  Tough game at Kresge tonight for Hope.  The place has given Hope fits and I'm assuming the Kresge Krazies will be ready and waiting for the youngsters.  It will be weird to not see Coach Turner patroling the sidelines and working the officials but I'm expecting the same type of physical, aggresssive play out of the Brits under long-time assistant May.

Atlantic
1. Richard Stockton 19-2 16-2
2. Farmingdale State 16-2 16-2
3. William Patterson 15-4 15-4
4. Baruch 17-4 15-3
5. Montclair State 15-5 12-5

From the CBS announcing booth to the #1 seed in the Atlantic region.  I didn't realize he had any college eligibility left.   ;D

Out of the GL's top 6 only 2 would get Pool A bids right now (I believe).  That means the other four would all need to get in via Pool C.  OAC and MIAA each get a Pool A and so far Carnegie Mellon looks good for a Pool C and either John Carroll or Capital should probably get one as well.  NCAC, PrAC, and AMCC all still get bids too.  That makes 7 bids from the GL region without a second MIAA or third OAC.  How many GL region teams usually make it?

Nor did we know that the former governor of New Jersey could still hoop it up. :o

Interestingly, these two colonial American statesmen shared a history together with Paterson [not Patterson] starting his legal career in Stockton's law office. Now their athletic descendents compete against one another in the NJAC.
