One bright note out of Hope this morning is that the JV team is still undefeated in the MIAA after 9 games. They are playing very well as a team and might have a few players able to make the step up to the Varsity next year. The most notable being Logan Neil, who is putting together a very solid season.

The Hope JV team is playing very well right now.  Logan Neil has stepped up his game and will provide another weapon on next years varsity team.  He's a slasher that has good "ups" but can also hit the 3.  Like many players, he needs to work on his defense some and not force things to become a complete player.  Gustov Nystrom is another player to watch.  Needs some more work to "smooth out" his game and really has a lot of work to do on his defense but he's an exciting player that can score from anywhere on the court.  The rest of the team has solid role players that allows the coach a lot of flexibility when situations dictate a certain style of play.  Coach Elliott has done a good job of bringing these guys along so check out a little of the action if you get a chance.

As is plainly evident from the video, this guy is serious about quickly countering any trashtalk over VanNoord's scoreboard issues. :o You've been warned. ;)

Why? Did Lake Erie die? ;)

I know that Cleveland tried to kill Lake Erie, but I was under the impression that it was making a comeback.

It looked pretty healthy the last time that I saw it. Of course, I haven't actually swam in it in eons, and that's where the rubber meets the road, so to speak, when testing the health of a body of water. That, or drinking it.

I would imagine that Lake Erie is safe and sound and is taking a long winter's nap underneath a sheet of ice right now, as is usually the case after a frigid January.

Did anyone else notice it looks like they went right back to keeping score, like nothing happened?

I did - and on some level that was pretty disturbing too.  I guess they really don't like each other, but are totally committed to their task.  I would love to know what started it and what was being said...

Sadly Cleveland was not alone in the damage that it did to Lake Erie, in fact if you talk with the folks down in OH you will quickly learn that a big part of the problem was the polluted water flowing in to the lake "from that state up north".  Lake Erie is very clean tday, and sports one of the best Walleye fisheriess around.  Yes, it is safe to swim.

Kalamazoo has won its last two MIAA contests.  In both they had a big rebounding advantage.

+16 vs Alma
+12 vs Adrian in an overtime game.

The last time they played Hope they really didn't hit the boards hard untill the final 6 or 7 minutes and they cut a 20 point Hope lead to 9 pretty easily.  Should be interesting to see if they carry that effort into DeVos.  I suspect Kzoo is a better team than the one the Dutchmen saw in Kalamazoo.

Speaking of DeVos......it has not been kind to the Hornets.  (should note all of these games were the first meeting of the year)

2006   Hope 86 Kzoo 49
2007   Hope 86 Kzoo 48
2008   Hope 88 Kzoo 60

Lake Erie has always been fairly clean at the Buffalo end. I used to swim in it at Evangola State Park south of the city when I was a kid. Of course, Buffalo's industrial base has been gone for so long that it's not as though there was much of anything going on at that end of the lake that could pollute it. :(
