Thanks for all the ticket replies.

Could someone also tell me based on the following seating chart:

http://www.calvin.edu/map/sfc/vannoord-arena-seating.pdf

what side of the arena are the player benches and what sections are designated as student sections?  Also, had heard that students standing is no longer an obstruction unlike Knollcrest was.  Is that accurate, it doesn't matter if you are behind the student section does not impact ones view.

Thanks again.

Hadn't seen this before... Interesting sight lines from the SE corner of 209 and the NE corner of 215 to the E basket. Anyone sit here that can describe them?

For me it's the least attractive part of VanNoord, and the only serious design flaw. If you sit in 215 and look left to the action on the hardwood, or in 209 and turn to the right, you will find you are looking at the far end of the floor through a metal black railing. Only the first three or four chairs closest to the rail seem to be affected but these seats wouldn't be your first choice.

Kalamazoo wins 68-66. Calvin inbounds and gets it to Mantel in the paint.  No foul called, layup missed.  Calvin loses.  MIAA pick-em board is upside down!

Olivet wins a close one with Adrian 81-76.  Sounds like a couple of pretty good games played in the MIAA this afternoon.

In too many games this year Calvin has allowed the other team big runs.  It is a bad habit.  This has happend in the last 4.  Today they couldn't overcome it.  Calvin was outscored 30-20 in the paint today.  In both Hope games they have been outscored in the paint.  They have done a good job defending the 3 this year but maybe at the expense of defending the basket.

Who's responsible to provide passion and urgency to the team?  I think it's the coach.

tom davelaar just said in radio interview that gustav has joined the varsity and is dressed tonight!

Olivet 81
Adrian 76

When you look at the stats, by and large, they look OK for the Bulldogs.  For several games now, they have been much more efficient offensively than they've been all year, but the last two games have yielded unsavory results.

Olivet is a good team, and they did a nice job executing their gameplan.  They made shots when they needed to, and their best players did not disappoint.  They will not be an easy out in the tournament next week.

Adrian needs to improve in two key areas if it expects to make a run in the MIAA tournament.  They need to improve defensively, and they need to focus on boxing out.  Obviously, these are very big areas, and the actual issues are somewhat smaller than that, but if they can just get back to basics and do all the small things well, I know they can make some serious noise next week.  I still feel like this team has a good run in it, and it's now or never for the guys to prove me right.

As for the new gym at Olivet:  generally, I like it.  It's a bright facility, and I love the light pouring into the lobby area.  I like the way the seats are set up, and they didn't make the mistake of making the arena too big capacity-wise for their needs.  One thing I really don't like, though:  both teams, in order to get to their locker rooms, must walk through the lobby/concession area.  That strikes me as an unfortunate design flaw, since, especially at halftime, I'd imagine the last thing the players and coaches would want to do is have to work their way around the line for hot dogs.  Other than that, though, it's a nice facility.

As for the tournament next week, I have a feeling this might be the year some of the higher seeds are upset.  That said, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the higher seeds made it to the weekend.  It just seems to me that this year, the talent levels are so close that anything really can happen.  As I already wrote, I think the Bulldogs still have a good run in them, but I've been wrong before.  I know that they've had a lot of tough losses this year, but as tough as it's been to deal with them, 3 wins next week would more than make up for all of it.  I hope the players embrace the challenge in front of them.

Alma has 9 point lead on Albion with 8:45 left in the game.  Shooting a blistering 770+% of their 3 pointers.  10-13 and 7-7 in the second half.

Two big dogs let their guard down today. Congrats to K and Alma. It could be an interesting tournament... I doubt it, but maybe...
