Did Coach Buck Riley have all of his son's on the bench tonight?  I just saw some coaches I've never seen, then I went to the website and didn't see any of the son's on the website.  Special occasion?  Retiring?  Was it his son's, maybe not?

Congrats to Desmond Young.  Always liked watching him play and was never flashy, a great combo for a great player and one of the best in the MIAA.  I love that 15 foot jumper, nobody really has an answer for that.

Best of luck to all....I've been reading all year, but have remained out of the loop.

That's Buck's son Scott.  He's been assisting all year, so it wasn't a special occasion or anything.

maybe olivet can beat calvin for the 2nd time in calvin gym man that would be nice or at least tire them out and be rough with calvin

That wouldn't be very nice.  I wouldn't want Calvin to be too tired to beat Albion on Saturday.

I think MK is just being smart... :P

Although Albion has had some success in beating Hope over the years, it looks like Albion has not beaten Hope in the MIAA tourney since 1999.  But of course, they have only played them twice since then in the tourney, 2003 and 2006.

Same goes for Calvin.  Albion has had some success in beating them over the years, but the last time Albion defeated Calvin in the MIAA tourney was 1998.  Since then, Calvin is 5-0 vs Albion.

Of course, Albion has new coach now.

A quick comment about last night's game:

Calvin's offense finally didn't look one-dimensional at all for the first time in a while.  Although Calvin played well enough all year to win the league championship, they still had frequent problems all year of that occurring.  Last night Calvin distributed the ball as well as I've seen a Calvin team do so in a while.  They knew how to find the open man.

KVS said on the post-game interview last night that the players showed up to practice angry on Monday.  That must have been a good thing.

Just curious?  Why are many Hope posters so afraid of having to play  Calvin again?   ??? ??? ???

The same reason that Albion is wary of Calvin, it's very hard to beat the same team 3 times in a season.

Man, I sure wish that this cliche would go the way of the passenger pigeon and the dodo bird. The whole notion that it's somehow harder than usual to beat a team three times in one season that hasn't beaten you is just not true.

Pretty scary huh.    :D :D :D

Are you guys aware there's a post on the NCAA's blog with a poll question asking what the best rivalry is?

Calvin-Hope is getting trounced. Needs your input.

I don't know, being second on that list of 4 is pretty darn good.

Pat Coleman

Well, in the past 11 minutes it's gone from 7.5% to 12.6%, so settling for a distant second shouldn't be necessary yet. :)

Adding a bit to sac's numbers (from a Hope perspective), there's no doubt the Dutchmen must have hated the MIAA tournament in it's early years - especially when Calvin hosted.

From 1992-2001, Calvin hosted 6 times, and Hope lost in the semi's all 6 of those years.  Since then, Calvin has hosted twice, and Hope has won the tournament both times.

Considering all host locations, Hope was 7-7 in the semi's and finals from 1992-2001.  Since then, Hope has a 9-3 record fro the Friday and Saturday games.
