When we refer to the rivalry in print, we always try to lead with the team which won the last meeting.

Then wouldn't it be Calvin-Calvin-Hope?     ;D

Or you could include all those games played by any current players and list it as:

Anyone else a little piqued that they referred to it as the "Calvin-Hope Rivalry" and not the "Hope-Calvin Rivalry"? The latter is, inter alia, more mellifluous.

It's been a few years since I took grammar but from memory I believe the grammatically preferred way is to go alphabetically. That's why I always use Calvin/Hope, and not because I want to give the Knights top billing. Normally I do the same when I recite several players, schools or other lists containing similar species.

As I've explained in the past, since I'm keenly aware of how easy it is for a neutral to step on somebody's toes where The Rivalry is concerned, whenever I cite the two teams in tandem I always put first whichever school won the most recent game. Thus, for now it's "Calvin/Hope", but if they square off this weekend and the Dutch emerge victorious, it'll switch back to "Hope/Calvin" for me.

I should also add that I arrived at this decision before I was aware that d3hoops.com had the same policy. Great minds think alike, I guess. ;)

You might be the first person ever to equate Calvin with Change.....

Here's something I find interesting.

Last year's attendence for MIAA tournament round 1.

at Hope 1100
at Calvin 557
at Albion 356
at Trine 255
TOTAL   2268

2009's MIAA Tournament first round
at Hope 1710
at Calvin 1458
at Albion 422
at Olivet 585
TOTAL  4175

Thats a pretty stunning increase from last year.  FWIW the MIAA semi-finals drew 1950 and 2705 last year.  Though I have no idea how they know the difference.  I'm pretty sure we'll go over that this year.

What about the Cortaca Jug rivalry?

I don't think many people would understand us if we started calling it the Ithland Jug.
