calvin played there starters the whole game hope might be able to tire calvin out in the game.

Hope's starters averages 20 minutes; Calvin starters averaged 24 minutes. Hope might be able to tire out Calvin's players, but I don't think it will have much to do with tonight's playing time. Replace Nelis's 18 minutes with Bunn's 23 minutes, and the playing time of the two teams' starters are about the same.

Thoughts and observations

***  I sat in the lower bowl tonight it is hands down the best place to watch a game at VanNoord.

***  At halftime Reimink had zero, Bunn had 5,  I would have bet good money Hope was down 16, not leading by 16.  Albion played some good defense on Reimink and Bunn fortunately some other guys stepped in to carry the load.  I think Ty Tanis gets 'goodjob' handshake #1 with his 10 points and overall playing with the most energy I've seen from him this year.  Andy Venema gets 'goodjob' handshake number two for makeing all four shots he attempted including a couple really tough ones.

***  This is 3 straight Semi-final exits by double-digits for Albion (06-08-09), but the last two have been very un-Albion like performances.  This years was much lower on the performance level than last years, but after two straight promising runs through the regular season in which they probably got as much out a team as you could, you kind of wonder if maybe the Britons don't just run out of fuel.

***  I did stay for the first half of the Calvin/Olivet game........I can honestly say I had never seen a team shoot 80.8% from the floor in one half, now I can.  That was impressive to say the least.  Olivet never had a chance tonight.  I would certainly usually stick around for the conclusion of both games but my driver had seen enough.  I left at halftime.  If Calvin shoots even remotely like that we may get an easy Calvin win tommorrow night.

It doesn't get any better than this.
Calvin-Hope III for the MIAA Tourney Championship and the AQ
The vibe I'm picking up is 3-0 for '09 and 86-86 all time.
Of couse, that could be the limes.... :)

I don't think anyone seriously thinks that Calvin will be tired from their game tonight...

The decade is 15-14 in Hope's favor at the moment as well.

You didn't see 'nova take out G'town in the D1 title game?  (Or is my memory slightly exaggerating what 'nova did - had to be close to that.)

I thought Olivet played pretty well the first half.  They came out with good intensity but then Calvin started making everything.  It was enjoyable to watch.
Calvin fans haven't witnessed shooting like that in a long time.  I also thought Calvin did a good job defensively.  Hope has outscored them in the paint in both games.  Calvin must stop their backdoor cuts for layups.

Olivet has a decent team.  They lose one senior.  If they all stay together they will be good next year.

I watched my first game at the Van Noord tonight, although I had previously been in the arena, so I have no new observations to make about that. One thing I did want to mention, however, related to comments people have made about Calvin's home shooting percentage. I have a theory about that. From what I saw tonight those are the tightest, most unforgiving rims I have ever seen. Unless you hit nothing but net, that ball isn't going down.

So we do it again tomorrow night. My good friend GK is predicting a Calvin victory, so I'll have to balance him out, even though I really don't know what to think. That k-zoo loss may have lit a fire under this Knight's team, and although I'm still not convinced they actually have more talent than Hope, you have to probably favor Calvin in the game. My guess, however, is that most Calvin fans aren't thrilled about having to face the Dutchmen again.

Villanova shot 78.6% as a team for the game, 22-28.  They were 9-10 in the 2nd half.  This was pre-shot clock, pre-three point line.  Totally different game then.

More than one Calvin fan--one of whom I sleep with--mentioned exactly that after tonight's action.

In the FWIW department, I sat directly across the aisle from my junior high school b-ball coach for both games. He's a Hope grad and, as usual, was decked out in his standard orange sweatshirt. Coach told me he thought Calvin would win Saturday because he believes the Knights are just a little more mature and physically stronger at most positions. Knights by 8. Never doubt Coach.

What will be the procedure for getting ticket's for tomorrow nights game?  Will people be able to pick any up at DeVos tomorrow or will all be sold only at Calvin?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.
