DIII 2021 Basketball National Tournament Pick-em Co-Champ

I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.

Mr. Ypsi

Calvin's run is now 14-1; lead drops to 6 with c. 2 to go.

Sincere congrats to the Flying Dutchmen on a great win at Van Noord for the MIAA tourney championship and the AQ.
My vibe was flawed, but my margaritas are flawless.
This toast's for Hope.

GO Hope!

Great win for Hope. They'll go as far as Reimink takes them in the tournament. Much like Cramer two years ago.

I don't think Calvin has a lot of hope for a Pool C bid. There are a ton of high level teams from the WIAC and out east with stronger claims. Even if Calvin had beat Kzoo I think they would need some luck but that loss killed their chances.

Calvin with a Pool C?  My guess is no after the loss to KZoo, but it's strictly a guess.  ??? ???

Mr. Ypsi

Great run for the Knights, but too little, too late.  Congratulations to the Dutch.

Here's hoping for Calvin, but with all the pool A upsets I fear they are on the under-side of the bubble.

KVS doesn't sound extraordinarily hopeful about a Pool C bid in his post-game comments.
This may give him some additional time to recruit some backcourt talent to replace the outgoing seniors.

Great game for Hope and a wonderful season for Calvin.  It's too bad both teams can't advance.  Reimink obviously game up big in this game but in my opinion it was the steadiness of Osburn, the rebounding of Bowser and Bunn scoring some big points late that made the difference.  I'm a little surprised that Calvin kept firing the 3-ball given their struggles but that's basketball with young men.

Congrats to both teams and good luck to Hope in the tournament!

I guess I have to join the "oh me (ye) of little faith" group. ;D  I had said earlier that I thought Calvin was the better team, however, I guess it just once again supports that old saying that "it's never over until it's over".  Congrats to both teams for fine seasons, Calvin for their regular season title and now to Hope for winning the tourney and getting the AQ.  From what you all had posted and kept us updated for those of us who couldn't be there in person tonight, this game had all the twists of excitement as the previous two meetings, although obviously not quite the "barnburner" last second endings of the former ones.  It appears that Calvin unfortunately hit a cold streak the last week and a half and that is never good/fun and certainly what teams want to avoid.

It seems that the trend of "parity" and upsets is the same regardless of the NCAA division as what is at DIII is happening at the DI level this weekend as well.  On the far chance that Calvin might get a Pool C bid, here's hoping ::) for them, but if not, again they had a very good season.  And now it's on to cheer for Hope as they go into the regional.  They persevered this week and tonight, never gave up and that is the college spirit.  I hope their shooting % stays hot and that they can go well beyond the regional.  We'll soon find out.  Thanks everyone for keeping us updated and "in the loop" especially the past couple of weeks and tonight.

Why can't both teams advance?

Just got back from my 2nd ever game at the Noord (1st was last night) and I believe this game was won/lost in the last 9min of the first half even though Hope actually went on the big run in the 2nd half.

With roughly 9 minutes left in the 1st half Calvin was in the bonus plus had 2 fouls on Remink (sp?) and had about a 6 point lead.  Instead of taking the ball to the basket and heading to the charity strip they continued to launch the 3's and finished the half 1-13 from 3-pt. and let a 6-point lead turn into a 2 point deficet.  That was the point in the game that they really could've created a cushion and some separation going into the half.

Good luck to Hope in the tourney and it'll be interesting to see what Calvin does for recruiting as they have a lot to replace with the departing seniors, especially in the backcourt.

Also, the Noord is a beatiful venue though the upper bowl does seem much more detached from the court and game compared to the old fieldhouse.  Definetly a class facility and kudos to the Architects and planners that blended the new building seamlessly with the old.

Seen this before, it is really difficult to beat a team 3 times in a season, especially when they are even to begin with.  Hope had the better coach tonight, GVW went to a match up zone in the second half and pulled ahead by 17.  Calvin started their press too late and then backed off with two minutes to go.  Strange coaching again by KVS.  Anyway, congratulations to both teams for a fine season.  Hopefully, both get into the tournament

Happy Calvin Guy

We can hope for a pool C bid, but it's looking like Calvin's season is over.  So.... thank you seniors for choosing to study and play ball at Calvin.  Caleb, Dustin, Tyler, Mike, Tim, and Mischa I've had fun watching you play this year and God bless in whatever your next endeavors are.

Congrats to Hope tonight and hope your season lasts as long as possible.  MVP Jesse Reimink was awesome tonight.

(did I see scottiedawg dancing shirtless on the Van Noord floor after the game tonight?  I think he deserves +k for that act of boldness)
