I thought GVW did a nice job managing Will and Jesse near the end of the first half.  He effectively rotated Jesse in and out to keep near the fire without staying long enough to get burned.  Katt's take to the basket was an example of what Calvin could have done; I don't think that is a move Tim makes unless Reimink is in foul trouble.

Sometimes shots go down, sometimes they don't.  I though Calvin got some good looks but they just didn't fall and that was the difference.  Scoring droughts are always magnified when the opposition catches fire.

Calvin loses quite a bit for next year, but I think there is a lot to be excited about in '09-'10.  I am especially excited to see what kind of a player Rodts becomes.  Only a couple more hours until we know how far into the future we need to look...

Agreed.  While a strong move, Jesse couldn't do much to defend it.  That was a well Calvin should have been drawing from a few more times.

Sure it's premature, but Mantel, Veltema, and Rodts is a large, strong, scoring, returning core.  Besides a 2-guard and the lack of size depth, Calvin will be fine.  Hope and Calvin often graduate large classes, but my experience has been that the returnees deliver beyond expectations.

I know I'll get a Woe is me on this but this will be the third consecutive year I am going to miss the first weekend of the tourney altogether because I'll be out of the country. I need to have a sit down with the committee next year and get things rearranged.

Congratulations to the Hope PLAYERS for being a class act.

Anything to add to that CalvinChelseaMom....  ;D It seems you have some more thoughts....

One would presume your question to be Purely Hypothetical.

Why?  I think it's a very fair question to ask.  I mean if you are going to post something like that, you certainly have to expect a reaction - since getting a reaction is the only reason to post it in the first place.

Unfortunately, winning doesn't always bring out the best in folks.

More of the same.  I know there are fans from Hope who probably fit that statement well.  But seriously, after the behavior of the Calvin students the last 2 Hope games (I will refrain from examples - but I can provide them if you need me to), you certainly shouldn't be throwing any stones at Hope fans.

I thought Hope defended Calvin pretty well.  Calvin has given up some big runs in quite a few games this year.  They usually were able to overcome it.  Saturday night they could not.  I agree with the others that the last minutes of the first half was where Hope turned the game.   Calvin was not a great shooting team this year.  Rodts and Veltema were the exceptions.  Calvin needed someone to have a big game similar to what Reimink had and that didn't happen.  Calvin stopped going to the basket in the second half.  They were 11-13 from the line in the first half and didn't shoot a free throw in the second because they didn't attack and settled for jump shots.

Great post - I had completely missed the 0-0 from the FT line for Calvin in the second half.  That speaks volumes.

Ummm...is calling a kid a name because of how he looks ok?  it is at Calvin...

purely rhetorical question but....having attended very very many high school and D3 games in the past 20 years...why is it the Christian-school born and raised kids seem to belittle their opponents the most?  Not saying it doesnt happen in other schools just hear it more from them.....

I didnt vote but how is GVW NOT coach of the year?  2 losses by 1 point and one by 2 or they go undefeated in the league with 4 new starters and essentially a lineup of kids who did not play many minutes at all last year (JR excepted of course)

I'm sure SAC would say this is the issue...   ::)

Please accept my apologies. My post was in no way calling out the Hope students/fans at the game. It was a reactive quote to some of the posts since the game. The Calvin fan "incident' was uncalled for and embarrassing. In general, the students/fans from both Calvin and Hope were great at the game. My post was also an indirect comment on a few ungracious Calvin posts after the win (thus thanking those posters who WERE gracious). I need to remind myself to take responsibility for my own posts and let others do the same. Good luck in the tournament.

Sac:  Thanks for doing the MVP poll.  One thing that jumps out at me is the 3 Adrian players that make the list.
Great win for Hope on Sat.  They did what they had to do to win, while Calvin fell back into some bad old habits.  Good luck in the NCAA.

Um ... I hope you're not overlooking 5th-ranked Platteville in the first round!

I think Hope will be one & done, but at best 2 & done. I'll be pulling for you to represent the MIAA well, but just being realistic. The good news is that if you get by those 2 teams, you will definitely have earned it & be tournament tested!!!
