I think Hope has to be terrified of Platteville's 6'10' center. That's trouble. Can someone remind me was it Platteville who had the big center in the 2003 tournament game held at the Dow. It was a matchup between a big WIAC kid and Don Overbeek. Both played well but UW-? had the upper hand in the end.

Congrats to Jesse as well.

It was UW-Oshkosh, and the kids name was Tim Dvorak (if my old man memory is working).  He was "only" 6-9, but he sure could shoot the 3

Was it really necessary to put 3 teams in one bracket with blue and orange as their colors?

The good news is, it will be simple to pick out the Fontbonne fans.  :)

Team colors was probably a primary criteria for selecting the pods.  The NCAA had to do something with Fontbonne.  Grouping by colors makes great sense, you don't have to worry about subjectivity like rankings and seeding.

Wheaton has a regional page set up, game time 6pm (CST), 7pm EST.  I already deleted the email and the number might have escaped me but Hope will get 450 tickets I heard.  This should be a well attended regional, Platteville travels farely well if I recall right.

Terrified?   I think UW-P will have a hard time matching him up on someone...Osburn (if hot) could create matchup problems...  Agreed though, this is a tough team to open the tourney with.

Travel can be dodgy this time of year, early forecast is for a chance of rain Friday in Michigan, high 50, with sunny skies and 54 in Chicago.

Stevens Point held him to 2 FT's Saturday night.  He had 12 points in the semi-final.
Carthage, a team similar in size to Hope, kept him to 16.  He also leads the team in turnovers.

SKOT

Seeing as I'm unemployed and live like a stone's-throw away from Wheaton College, I will be going to steal some tickets for the Orange and Blue of Hope when tickets are released.  If they run out of tickets at Hope, I would be willing to go get a couple more from them if they still have tickets left.

On the unemployed note... If anyone knows of a job suitable for an accountant with one year experience at a CPA firm and, hopefully, with his CPA license (I have passed 3 sections and I am waiting on the results for the 4th,) within 75 miles of Lansing, MI, please let me know!

Looks like he's a 5th yr senior too--he was getting significant minutes as a freshman in 04-05.  must have gotten injured his jr year and been given some equivalent of a redshirt exemption even though he played 8 games that yr.

One would think that Hope would have trouble with his size....but is he really that much bigger or better than Mantel?

Concern about the big guy is legitimate but UW-Platteville is not a one dimensional team.  Hope just needs to stick with it's own game of in-your-face defense and good ball movement.  Can't be concerned about the draw.  At this point, there are no easy teams and to make anything out of the tournament appearance, sooner or later, all the good teams need to be challenged.

CHN:  Well said.  I to recall the days in the early 90's when the Presidents of Hope and Calvin issued the dire warning that if fans couldn't control themselves they would discontinue the rivalry games.  None of us want to see that happen.   :)
At this point all Hope needs to do is just take one game at a time.

If you're referring to the letter in the GR Press from the two presidents then it was in the late-1980s (unless there were more than one).  Things were much worse in those days. The low point had to be when 100s of Calvin fans chanting 'Pedro-Pedro-Pedro...' as an insult to a Hope player with dark skin and black hair (Denison?). They also threw pizza boxes at the guy . . . it was out of hand. It happened, I was there (on the Calvin side).
