BTW:  Where does sac find such obscure stuff anyway?

I was looking for video of K Central's Doug Anderson, I've become fascinated with his athletic ability.  He's quite a dunker, even his missed dunks are spectacular.  There's an audible moment where you can hear the whole gym hold its breath when the potential for one of his dunks is there.  Its really pretty cool.  Plenty of video out there none with appropriate music for this forum.

Doug will get all the press this Friday and maybe Saturday, but the player to watch for KC is Devin Oliver.  The Jr. might get some Mr. Basketball attention next year.

The K gym video was mixed in and well my curiosity said press play.  It was quite a find.   I had no idea K had a gym before Anderson, I was always under the impression Anderson was an older facility that had been renovated.  File this one under learn something new everyday.

I also learned that Steve Majerle's son Ryan can play, and that Steve knows a tailor that can make a 3 piece orange suit.  Matt Neil should give him a call.

If Matt does, he better wait two years lest he commit an NCAA rule violation. Ryan's only a sophomore. I haven't seen him play yet but I've been told he's pretty good--maybe too good for D3, much like VanDussen who will be playing on a bigger stage this weekend now that Zeeland East has advanced to the Breslin.

I meant he should call him about his tailor.   :P

My initial impression of Ryan Majerle is that as a Soph he has the look of someone who could play at a higher level than D3, taking into account his likely development and growth.

I am pretty sure that the old film is of Kalamazoo's Tredway Gymnasium. From what I understand, Tredway stood pretty much on the exact same location of what is now the Anderson Athletic Center. I think Old Knight could probably confirm this one way or the other.

It's been a really, really long time (so long that I had forgotten the old gymnasium's name) but that's definately Treadway (not Tredway) from about 35 years ago. Everything from the clock in the far corner, to the platform above the scorer's table make it clear that this is the old K College gym. I can still smell the dank moisture that invaded my nostrils every time I entered the locker room located in the bowels of the ancient building. The video appears to be "highlights" from an intramural game. I'm not quite sure, but it may even be my Calvin intramural team's challenge game against our Hornet counterparts. At about the 2:20 minute mark of the video someone swishes a very long shot--a shot so long the shooter can't even be found within camera range. This was a trait reminiscent of OldKnight who was well known for putting the ball up from the locker room door, occasionally even before exiting.

A friend of mine played on the JV team at K in 79-80.  I attended a game that year at Treadway.  If my memory serves me correctly Treadway was torn down after that season.  K College played at various sites during the 80-81 season.  They moved into the AAC in 1982.

Speaking of Devon Oliver, there was a really nice article in the Kalamazoo Gazette this past Sunday:

Quite a nice young man!

Its kind of flattering that I can try and make a joke/comment about buying a suit and that I have to explain that it was just a joke and I'm not inferring anything or suggesting anything by doing so.

We're talking 3 piece orange suit here, that screams Hope coaching staff doesn't it? ;)

You unwittingly answered a question I asked 3 others, thank you.  Brent did not play last night.

I liked the part with the girl and the puppy. Very heartwarming. ;)

Nice article about Michael Thomas, which oddly doesn't mention Albion.

I also neglected to mention Flint Powers Catholic in the B semi-final tommorrow is coached by Kzoo grad Tim Herman.  Powers beat nationally ranked and general high school basketball evilness Detroit Country Day for the 2nd year in a row to make Breslin.  Wasn't it Powers who was the beneficiary of that awefull 3 point call in last years semi's vs Forest Hills Northern?

academy1

Yes, Powers did receive the call last year to put them into the finals.  The coach of Powers Catholic is Tim Herman's father.
