Mr. Ypsi

Well, no shutout after 8 (but a solo HR to Thome is no disgrace), but Justin gets the complete game win, 2-1.  Thanks, Jimmy! ;)

I take full responsibility for the Thome home run.........I started watching with the bases loaded in the top of the 7th, sure enough 2 straight outs.  Saw Thome's monster shot (and what a monster) and thought it best to leave the Tigers in peace.

Spent the evening on the porch watching the world with a hockey pop........sans hockey.

You sound like my older son.  Although I thought I raised him right, he's a diehard Penguins fan.  Three straight games, within one minute of his turning on the game, the Red Wings scored.

He's afraid to watch game 7, but I may make him! :o ;D

With the 2000's decade of MIAA basketball over(not including November and December 2009) and it being well into the off-season, does anyone want to take a shot at naming a MIAA all-decade team?

I'm sure Winkle would be on everyone's list, but of course he only played one year in this decade.  I guess I would say that wouldn't matter, though, in deciding this list imo.

sac

Start with these guys........MVP's, Scoring Champions or Multiple all-league selections.

Desmond Young, Adrian
Dan Walter, Adrian
Steve Brooks, Adrian
Brian Schaffer, Adrian
Mike Riley, Adrian

Brandon Crawford, Albion
Travis DePree, Albion
Michael Thomas, Albion
Tim Czarnecki, Albion
Andrew Neidlinger, Albion

Anthony Jones, Alma
Isaac Smith, Alma

Aaron Winkle, Calvin
Jeremy Veenstra, Calvin
Dan Aultman, Calvin
Caleb Veldhouse, Calvin

Ryan Klingler, Hope
Don Overbeek, Hope
Andy Phillips, Hope
Stephen Cramer, Hope
Marcus VanderHeide, Hope
Jesse Reimink, Hope

Brad Phillips, Kalamazoo
Dirk Rhinehart, Kalamazoo

Bruce Lawrence, Olivet
Brandon McClary, Olivet

Tony Benford, Trine

Chad Kahle, Defiance
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other names that probably should be on this list   Kyle Trewhella, Calvin, Chris Prins, Calvin, Derek Griffin, Calvin, John Mantel, Calvin, Greg Immink, Hope, Derek VanSolkema, Hope, Brett Quayle, Albion.

In my opinion,  Brandon Crawford had the best individual season of any MIAA player the past decade in 2006,  averaging 22 points and 11 rebounds and recording around 18 double-double's.

I suppose my first team might be:

Brandon Crawford
Jeremy Veenstra
Aaron Winkle
Stephen Cramer
Michael Thomas

I'd be tempted to put Travis DePree in their over Veenstra just for what Travis could do playmaking wise, I wouldn't put him in their over Winkle or Crawford.

Nice big bench with
Travis DePree
Chad Kahle
Don Overbeek
Dan Aultman
Marcus Vanderheide
Bruce Lawrence or Tim Czarnecki

Some scoring..........
Steve Brooks
Jesse Reimink
Anthony Jones
Brian Schaeffer
Dan Walter

a little short on guards.  Schaeffer and Jones quite capable at the point.  I suppose Jones could also play the 2.

I like the depth in the front court......really hard to get the two Kzoo kids in that top 16 even though I'd like to.  Can't imagine not being able to get Andy Phillips in their either, his So. year was steller.

Mr. Ypsi

An omen?

After 3, Detroit over Pittsburgh, 1-0!

Go Tigers; Go Wings!

(Did a total genius schedule the start of the Tigers-Pirates series for game 7 of the Stanley Cup - or (more likely) just a coincidence?)

Mr. Ypsi

Well, collectively for the night, Detroit 4, Pittsburgh 3. :P

While I am even more a Tigers fan than a Wings fan, considering the circumstances I'd be perfectly willing to turn those three runs into goals! :'(

Pretty sure Schaeffer played point for most of his career.  He did have over 400 assists.

Had lunch yesterday with my step-brother's family who just returned from a year in Jos Nigeria. A great example of our small world revealed that several of my step-niece's graduating classmates were heading to the states for college in the fall with a couple going to Hope and Calvin... More interestingly, her (ex) boyfriend was quite the baller (be nice...  ::)) and is hoping to try out for the Hope squad. She claims he was a 3 point sharp shooter. I'll get more info from her and report later.

I also told her that I would be more than happy to escort her as a chaperone, in the winter, for a trip to MI to see a game. What a guy, huh???  :D

Along those lines: I was in Santa Fe last Saturday and was sitting out in the Plaza and got to talking to some strangers who were sitting next to me, and it turns out she was a Hope grad. I'm not sure it's evidence that the world is small, but it was quite a happenstance.

I was in the Rocky Mountains last week, wearing my Hope College hat, when a lady with her young family told me she was a graduate of Calvin.  Turns out they lived about 4 miles from my home.  I have recently started to wear this hat on vacations, and each time I run into people from either Hope or Calvin.

Check out the ad in the Grand Rapids Press sports section today (Monday) and yesterday from an organization called "Recreational Debut."  They are offering a free seminar on "How to Get an Athletic Scholarship."  Former N.Y. Knick and NBA star Dennis Bell is conducting the seminar at the Wyoming Library this coming Saturday.

The ad states that among the recipients of the "All Star Scholarships" are two players going to Albion:  Alex Rogers and Luke Walker, and one player going to Adrian:  Luke Holtrop.  While I am sure that Albion and Adrian have not started to offer athletic scholarships to its D3 athletes, this ad clearly implies otherwise.
