I read through some of the Rec Debut website.  This is part of the problem of athletics is these guys running these kinds of programs.  They make videos of these kids to set them up as some kind of star for their own profit.  He can say it's non profit but somebody is getting a piece of the action somewhere.  He calls Bennette Gay one of the greatest coaches in Grand Rapids sports history. ::)
Luke Holtrop scored 44 points.  10-11 3 pointers he made there wasn't anybody within 6 feet of him.

Check out the ad in the Grand Rapids Press sports section today (Monday) and yesterday from an organization called "Recreational Debut."  They are offering a free seminar on "How to Get an Athletic Scholarship."  Former N.Y. Knick and NBA star Dennis Bell is conducting the seminar at the Wyoming Library this coming Saturday.

The ad states that among the recipients of the "All Star Scholarships" are two players going to Albion:  Alex Rogers and Luke Walker, and one player going to Adrian:  Luke Holtrop.  While I am sure that Albion and Adrian have not started to offer athletic scholarships to its D3 athletes, this ad clearly implies otherwise.

I sent an email to them through their web page about this very issue.  I was curious about their response.  This is their response to my email:  "Through our services they received grants and academic finacial packages."

Parents spend money to receive the same grant and academic financial package that they could have received if they did it on their own.

Ouch!  Verlander finally had a bad outing - 5 earned runs in four innings - and the Tigers trail 9-0 with still only one out in the bottom of the 5th. :(

I'm good with some Sox-Cubs chatter.

I heard Ozzie Guillen told the Sun-Times beat guy that the visitors' clubhouse at the shrine known as Wrigley reminded him of Versailles compared to the locker rooms at the Civic Center.  ;)

Now there's a conversation I could get behind, but I fear we'd still be on opposite sides, Goodknight!   ;D

Being the Michigan IAA, I just assumed a majority would be Tigers fans, forgetting that many of you are closer to Chicago than Detroit (or at least your schools are; I don't know where most of you live :P).

Might make for an interesting poll question during the off-season: fan of Tigers, White Sox, Cubs, other, none?

I'm sure a majority of the readers are Tigers fans...it's just that their offense recently has put us all to sleep...

For goodknight and CM: a wild afternoon at Wrigley Field.  Sox led 5-1 half-way thru the 8th, but the Cubs got 4, then 1 more in the 9th to win.

[As a Tigers fan, thanks Cubbies! ;)  We'll try to return the favor by whacking the Cards tonight!]
