For goodknight and CM: a wild afternoon at Wrigley Field.  Sox led 5-1 half-way thru the 8th, but the Cubs got 4, then 1 more in the 9th to win.

[As a Tigers fan, thanks Cubbies! ;)  We'll try to return the favor by whacking the Cards tonight!]

Now that's how to win friends and influence (Cub fan) people!  (And how to get me to cheer for the Tigers, LOL.)

Oh, man - do not let this be a rain-out!  With two outs in the bottom of the 4th, the Tigers scored four runs to take a 7-4 lead.  It is still two outs in the bottom of the 4th, as there is an extensive rain delay.  Lightning is still flashing in Ypsi, so I'm not sure how things are looking at Comerica.

CM, do an 'anti-rain dance', as it is the Brewers we are leading! :D

(Am I remembering the rules right that they just need to squeeze in 4 more outs [since the home team is ahead]?)

Mr. Ypsi

They squeezed in almost three more innings at Comerica before calling the game with one out in the bottom of the 7th.  The offense has returned (he says, with fingers crossed): Cabrera, Granderson, and Thames (twice) all homered as the Tigers win 10-4.

As the victim was the division-leading Brewers, all Cubs fans are allowed to say 'thank you'! :D

Not exactly timely but I saw in the Lansing paper today one of Oldknights classmates recently celebrated a birthday.

Mr. Ypsi

The 'Cardiac Cubs' are at it again.  Thursday they came from down 5-1 in the 8th to win 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th.  Friday they were once down 7-0 and won 8-7 in 10 innings.  Today they are tied 4-4 in the 12th!

They'd better win this thing quickly or they're in trouble - by the box score, they've already used 7 pitchers and 19 players total.  There basically ain't nobody left but the other starters!  (And the next couple of starters had better go deep into the game, or troubles could snowball.)

Mr. Ypsi

Break up the Cubbies! ;D

They did it again.  Cleveland got a run in the top of the 13th; Cubs got two in the bottom of the inning (with the winning run scoring on a wild pitch)!  'Cardiac', indeed! :o

Tigers are up 7-2 in the 5th - is the offense finally back for real? :o

Mr. Ypsi

I'm feeling cautiously optimistic that the Tigers' offense has returned.  Granderson (who's been on fire lately, so I'm not worried), Inge and Everett (who play for their defense; offense is gravy) went a combined 0-12 today; the rest of the team batted .654! :o ;D

It's only 1/162nd of a marathon, but it's something.

Anyone attend the Champions of Character All-Star games at Cornerstone Thursday night?  Stephen Bell liked what he saw in Calvin's Matt DeBoer who was named the games MVP.

Also for recruiting I would like to add  3 players to the Hope ledger.

Jared Mysliewiec  6-1 G  Wyoming Tri-Unity
Drew Scafe 6-5 F  Wyoming Tri-Unity
Ben Grasmeyer 6-3 F Grand Rapids Christian

I've been waiting for public confirmation on Jared and Drew for some time........

The Detroit Free Press has disabled their all-state basketball links  ::), but if I recall Jared was on either the 1st or 2nd team for Class D.  Drew Scafe was an honorable mention.  I don't know anything about Grasmeyer.

fwiw, Stephen Bell had Mysliewiec ranked #29 in the pre-season at guard and had him on his 2nd Team Class D, and Scafe on the 6th Team.

Mr. Ypsi

Alas, the Cubs fall to Atlanta, 2-0.  I was hoping the Cubbies would come into Detroit on a five-game winning streak to face the Tige's 4-game winning streak - and KABOOM!

CM (and whoever the other 4 Cubs fans are), we did our part in destroying the Brewers.  I'm afraid we will have to go our separate ways for the next three days.  I will not only root for the Tigers over the Cubs, I'll root for the Brewers over the Twins (I see them as the most dangerous rival to the Tigers).  (I will, however, root for the [hold-my-nose] Mets over the Cards.)

Full disclosure: I confess that as a callow youth in Peoria, I was a Cards fan.  Though really more a Gibson and Brock fan.  Having now put away childish things, the Cubs are my NL favorites.  I just can't quite go the extra mile to root for them over the Tigers. ;)

But I suppose I could root for a re-run of the 1945 World Series! ;D

I believe OldKnight mentioned Nathan VanEck from Eastern Christian in New Jersey.  Also, if memory serves, someone mentioned that Bryan Huntley was a "no go" because of $$$

Not to mention the 1984 series that should have been.

25 year anniversary this year...........on this date in 1984 the Tigers were 51-18......they would win just 6 more games between now and the All-Star break on July 8
