Mr. Ypsi

The pitching was mostly excellent yet again (Porcello, Miner, and Fien combined to no-hit the Sox after the third), but, alas, Porcello started slow (5 runs in the first two innings) and the bats never showed up; Tigers lose 5-1.  But I can't be too disappointed with 3 out of 4! :)

And just in case it doesn't last, let me give a shout-out to the FIRST PLACE Cubs! ;D

[Here's hoping for a replay of the 1945 World Series - including the result! ;)]

Ahh!  All is well again seeing the Cubs flag flying atop the standings pole on the Wrigley scoreboard along with the 'W' flag flying high as well!!!  ;D

Has anyone been going to the summer league games this year?  I'm curious to know who is playing well and what recruits are participating (if any) for Hope/Calvin in the Holland Rec League.

That's great news for those of us that don't live in the Holland area.  Whooohooo!!!  :)

I have been gone most of the summer but have talked to a couple people in passing in regards to Hope.  I have heard that the guard play has been really good in several instances, interior play, defensively, is the opposite. Anyone guarded by AV can score anytime he/she wants.

I have heard that bowser and tanis have had huge scoring outputs in games.  CU fan said that ty had 22-25 points in one half against them, and will looks to be the next go to guy, not bunn, amongst teammates.

Hope's roster had 13-15 guys consistantly the first few games, now its at 8-9.  Don't know if kids got busy, got discouraged by lack of clock, or if they finally have 2 teams playing.

Jared from TUC fits in athletically with the college kids, but lacks saavy that will come in time.  Having watched him in HS, his ball handling will have to improve alot.

That being said, it was all heresay and summer ball is well...ugly to watch as a purist.

Any word on Kelvin coming back to the team?  I'm guessing he stays at hope but no longer plays.

How much longer are they playing?  wouldn't mind catching a game.....

My 2 cents...

I've been to 6 or 7 games this summer, and not sure I would have given any of your descriptions of individual performances.  No doubt there are games where different players shine and struggle, and given that this is summer league, you might as well forget making any defensive evaluations.  You're watching street ball with a bit of team play interjected.  I like to watch these games, because it gives me a BB fix during the long summer.  Guys playing with effort and not getting hurt are the only pieces of importance to me.

as mentioned, the descriptions I relayed were simply mentioned to me.  I have not attended any games personally but thought some heresay would be more informative (and interesting) than one's opinion on the tigers or cubs.

If the kids are there to win, some defense must be played. Sadly many players just show up "to get a run in" and could care less whether their team wins or not. As a former competitor, it generally come from desire to be successful and personal pride.  Offensive sets or street ball, a player giving up repeated scores and not taking a foul to stop someone from scoring should be a concern, especially when one basically has to molest someone to get a foul called out there.

Man, if the Tigers could always do this combination, they'd go 162-0! ;D

Verlander pitching - already 12 Ks in 6 innings.  AND the offense showed up - they've scored in all six innings so far, and 8 different players have at least one hit. :)
