If you like offense, forget it.  If you like pitching duels, you MUST turn on the Tigers game! ;)

Bottom of the ninth, still scoreless.  Greinke went 7 for KC, now Roman Colon.  Washburn went 8 for Detroit, now Lyon.  Each team has only 3 hits.

And Inge wins the game for the Tigers ... Walk-off homer!!

It's too bad that Washburn couldn't get the win, he was outstanding for the Tigers last night. Hopefully that is what we will see out of him for the stretch run.

I wonder if Laird will get 'Pipped'?  Alex Avila is off to an amazing start: 4 games, current BA .471, with a slugging percentage of !.059! :o  (His 8 hits have included 4 doubles and 2 HRs; he has 6 RBIs in 4 games.)

Oh, and the Tigers are up 8-3 (and the Cubbies won). :)

Information please----

Can anyone tell me how the season is shaping up for both Albion and Adrian. What players are expected to be the stars/leaders for these 2 teams in the upcoming season. Thanks.

You ask a good question, and one that can be expanded to the rest of the MIAA.  Over the years the concensus on this board has been it is almost better at this point in time to wait a few weeks to actually see who shows at the colleges involved.
In a general nature this is Coach May's first recruiting class as head coach.  He was involved in the process before taking over, and Coach Turner is still hovering in the background so one can expect that Albion will probably field a good competitive team, and May will get the most out of the talent that he has.  Albion always come to play, and they play hard.
Adrian is probably the team that has the most questions marks hanging over it.  New coach, and a ton of new talent coming in.  It is always difficult to predict what will happen with a major coaching change like Adrian had, and it takes some time for everything to jell into some sort of mass that makes it possible to make an educated guess.  Adrian's new coach comes in with some nice experience at the h.s. level, and it would be wise to assume he knows what to do when it comes to playing basketball.  Taking the steps from the h.s. to the college ranks can be problematic for a coach even an experienced one, and even at the D3 level.  Perhaps one of our Adrian posters can tell us if Coach Riley is hanging around in the background to serve as a mentor.  If the new coach is all on his own I suspect he has a steep learning curve,  While GVW, KVS, RP, and the other MIAA coaches are all nice guys I don't anticipate you will see any of them go out of their way to make this guys job a cake walk.  It strikes me that (from the limited reeports I have heard and seen) that Adrian has some good athletic talent coming in, and the question mark here is adjusting to college life, and college ball.

FWIW:  Hope is showing the HOF games at AQ, while Calvin has the games listed as "at Calvin",

AQ is listing the game as @ Calvin

They must have pulled a switcheroo with the schedule.

Since that tournament left Van Andel, its never been at Aquinas....they're due to host.   But of the four gyms between the schools its easily the smallest, they may not host because of that.

I don't know if this has been brought up since, but it appears that AQ is playing their home games at GRCC this season. It looks as if plans to rennovate the AQ fieldhouse may be in motion.

This would explain the shift to Calvin for this year's HOF tourney.

Swung through Holland today and went past Hope's new soccer stadium across the street from DeVos,...very impressive.  I think some of the smaller European club teams would be envious.

It does not surprise me that AQ would be upgrading their facilities.  Everything I had read points to the fact failing to provide good facilities hurts recuiting students, and student athletes.  Even in todays tough economy I do not see any weakening in the need to match the competition.
Congrats to Hope on the new Van Andel field.   :)

why?
Without talking with anyone at Calvin one can quickly come up with some very practical reasons they might not be overjoyed to host.  First is the HOF is not a SRO type of crowd.   Now you have to have all the staff etc. that is involved in this type event that otherwise would have been off.  If the HOF is a money maker for the host it is one thing, but if it runs at break even or at a loss there is no reason to be happy.

Look at the scheduling date for the tournament. It's set for the Thanksgiving Day weekend when the campus is pretty much closed down--an awful time to schedule an on-campus sporting event. The HOF event has outlived its usefulness and I think Calvin should decline future participation.
